Exactly What We Were Looking For!!,

"This is such a perfect product! Originally, we were just looking for something that would keep our lab from climbing into the front seat, like a barrier, but this is even better! With the extend seat section and the barrier to the front seat it kept her in the backseat with plenty of room. Even at 90 pounds it held her weight with no problems. She was able to be level with us and see out of the windshield rather than standing in the backseat floor board and stare at the cupholders. Our trip was 6 hours and she was perfectly happy the whole time! It attached and removed very easily and stood up to her weight. I definitely recommend!"

Good idea only if your dog doesn't have A.D.D.,

"Our dashound/terrier mix gets so excited in the car that he would love to ride in the front seat everytime. So the problems lies with him wanting to push through or go over the top of the section that goes between the front seats. That part is not very sturdy at all. It's great if your dog wants to just stand and look out.If he's a little hyper and tries to jump into the front seat before you purchase, you may want to try a different design. When other peoples posts say that large(100 lbs+) dogs can stand on this, believe it. My 2 dogs weight combined is around 50 lbs and my husband even sat on the side of it when they were on it held him too!!"

Good idea, decent product,

"I use the seat-extender in conjunction with a rear-seat hammock to provide more support for my dogs, and for that purpose this works really well. However, this is far from the perfectly designed product.
While it does what it claims, it seems to have been a rush design. The extensions simply rest on the edge of the back seat, meaning there is a potential for them to give way, should this be pushed beyond the seat. Adding a vertical support, folding from beneath the extension to the car floor would have been a nice touch.
The center barrier is also a good idea, as it is just high enough to act as an obstacle to front-seat dogs. However, it's not made of the same sturdy material as the extensions, instead being filled with soft, flexible foam, making it very easy to bend, and rendering it essentially useless as a barrier.
There are a lot of straps, and very poor instructions on how to install this. After fumbling with it for a few minutes the lighbulb went on and I figured out where each strap goes (hint: the long ones go around the base of the front seat backs).
The good: Solid seat-extension provides more than adequate support for even a 60lb dog standing on it. Very quick and simple to install and remove. Durable construction and easy to adjust to fit.
The bad: Lack of a vertical support means there is a chance the extensions will collapse. Also, the central barrier is all for show, as it is not even close to effective in keeping out determined dogs (and all dogs are determined!).
The ugly: The entire product is attached to the front seats, so if you have asymmetrical seats (i.e. the passenger seat slid way back, and the driver seat way forward), or if one of the front seats is reclined significantly, the entire extension is out of whack.
As an addition to the travel hammock this works really well. As a stand-alone product it has considerable deficiencies."

"I have a Saturn Station wagon and the extend-a-seat works amazingly well for my backseat. I have 3 dogs: _ Siberian Husky 45lbs _ Lab mix 60lbs _ Alaskan Malamute 90lbs The extend-a-seat held up for over a year & a half with most likely over 600 car rides on it there and back ranging from local trips to long distance trips. My dogs are goofballs and are very hard on products. It finally bit the dust when my friends 130lbs Rottweiler hopped on it where the seat wasn't supporting it. Amazing product!! and I bought a new one to replace it."

Outdoor Hound: Automobile Extend-A-Seat,
May 25, 2007

"I previously purchased a pet hammock for my sub-compact car and due to my rear seat having built in headrests I couldn't anchor it properly. I searched for other alternatives and found one in this product. The installation process took about 5 minutes to get the proper fit. Once I had it securely anchored to my front seats and tested my own body weight (190 lbs) on it, I knew it can handle my growing girl's weight (an 8 month-old, 80 lbs plus female Rottweiler) without a problem! It takes alot to impress me and this product succeeded in doing so! I suggest using a blanket or throw to put over it and the rear seat area so it's flush. Also, so there isn't a gap where the dog can push it up while riding and getting down in rear seat leg area of the car and causing a distraction while driving. It has made travel with my Ava so much more pleasureable as she's not chasing shadows on the floor as I drive!"
