Blessed Relief

September 4, 2006

I LOVE this harness!! What blessed relief from pulling and yanking. My 30 lb. mixed breed girl gets so excited when on walks. This harness is comfy for her, seems to give her freedom of movement, AND at the same time keeps her from pulling and ripping my arm and shoulder off. Anyone with an excited medium size dog knows just how strong they can be and how they can put your body out of whack. This harness REALLY works. Both of us love the padded under the leg straps. If I only had known about this her first year of life!! I only wish they made a petite size for my other dog.

My lab usually ends up dragging me along behind her, but with the Halter was a completely different story. She walked great from the second she started walking before we even got out the door! I have recommended it to all of my friends and I'd recommend it to everyone!!! I don't even usually take the time to review items, but I know how frustrated I was to walk my dog. She has so much energy she needed walked everyday, but until I could get her trained, it wasn't going to happen, but now I can walk her everyday like she needs!!!

This is sooo much better than just using a collar. My dog is not the best behaved and this gives me more control without having to worry about her choking when she sees a squirrel.

I have a 45 lb lab/pit mix who gets very excited when we go for a walk. Constantly pulling and jumping when we near people or other dogs. We tried to fit him for one of those leads that goes over his snout, but he couldn't stand that on his face. We've tried all sorts of harness types, that ended up just making it easier for him to pull me around. I put this product on and took him outside and was amazed at how well he did. When he tried to pull, the harness tightened up (as it should) and stopped him right in his tracks! As we continued to walk, he attempted to pull often, however it felt like gentle tugs on the leash, and much easier to manage. I had my 10 yr old daughter run with him to see how that would go. He didn't pull her around like before, and it was much easier for her to run with him. This is only day 1, but I was so thrilled with the experience I had to share! I also noticed on the packaging that there is a lifetime satisfaction guarantee, so I can return it down the road if for whatever reason, it turns out not be as awesome as it is today. (provided I can keep and later locate the package and receipt lol!) Only downfall I see is that it's not very easy to thread the Sherpa sleeves. It came packaged ready to go, but when I was adjusting the collar, one of the sleeves slipped about halfway off, so I had to re-thread it and it was a little challenging. Otherwise, I love it. Great price, great value, and it works!

I was very pleased when I first used it; my dog didn't pull. But soon he found out how get out of the harness, therefore, this was another useless buy. I was very disappointed.

We have a 1 1/2 year old treeing walker coonhound mixed with red tick coonhound and I have been dying to take him for a walk since he was a puppy but everytime he takes off bolting out the door dragging me behind him and nearly choking himself to death in the process. I recently purchased this harness and the first time he ever wore it he sat at the door and actually let me lead him out without pulling at all. I am definately excited about being able to take him out on walks and jogs with me now (not just letting him loose for exercise at the lake or driving to the field)

I can't tell you how completely amazed I am at the effectiveness of the Halter from Sporn. We purchased it a week ago to deter our 1.5 yr old JRT from pulling, after ANOTHER trip to the as result of him dashing out the door and causing me to roll my ankle!
I left it on the counter for almost a week without putting it on him because I was almost certain it wasn't going to work. I was VERY skeptical. I hooked him into the halter (which was a little complicated until I figured it out..should have read the directions first) and snapped the leash on him and we were off. I opened the door and cringed expecting the normal drag out the door...but it didn't happen! I walked him around and I was beaming because I was so proud of the way he was walking me.
He attempted to pull twice but I figure the Halters magic worked right away because he stopped.
I think the only negative I have is that it was a little harder to keep him from jumping on kids and other dogs still...but maybe now that he is walking well on the leash I can focus my efforts on just getting him to stop jumping!! :)
I'm so happy..I'm finally seeing the good dog that I knew was in there! I've already recommended this product to friends!

On occasion I have to board my brothers beagle which has bad leash manners and pulls ridiculously to the point where he will gag even later on after he's been walked. Choke training collars help but the sporn halter has an immediate effect in stopping the pulling. I think the rib pressure on the sporn halter also has a calming effect on the dog. Who ever says that this type of halter doesn't reduce the dog puling must not be using it properly. the effect is immediate and pretty amazing.

My basset/doxie mix is about 35 lbs of muscle. With bad knees myself, I was really afraid to walk her with the way she pulled on a short leash (she was better on a retractable). But it really became an issue when we started obedience training, as she pulled and tugged on me all through class. The trainer offered me a Sporn when she noticed how much we were struggling and it was like a miracle. Immediately, she settled down, stopped pulling, and started paying attention in class. It is so effective with her that I only have to pull up on it to make her sit (no verbal command) and heel. I came out of obedience class and bought one immediately at our local Petsmart. Great halter!!!

I have used the choker collar and the Gentle Leader and this halter is by far the best product I have used to walk my dog. I have a very energetic 5 month old Brittany that can easily pull me down and I could not walk him with any level of comfort for me or him. The Sporn halter while not a training tool is a definite step in the right direction. At least I do not hate walking him any more. He still pulls but is controllable. He is wearing the halter and in full point in the attached photo. I highly recommend this product.

I would like to start out by saying I Love This Sporn Harness!!! It has been amazing for my two dogs. I have a 70lb American Pit Bull Terrier & a 50lb Pit Bull/Jack Russell Mix.
At 5months they literally dragged me into the bushes & ran around one of my neighbors & tied her up, lol!! They are both strong dogs. Well, after finding out about this product & using it, what a BIG difference! They are both walking different on them. They no longer want to pull nearly as much & I have better control walking them. Since then I have also taken them to the Training Classes at PetSmart & have learned so much. Also, you can use this device in the Training Class there too. They are both doing so well. I would definitly recommend this product to someone that has a pulling dog. Please be sure that this is only to be worn when taking your dog for a walk or during training. Don't leave it on them! I have heard of people's dogs chewing it off when they weren't being watched.
Pros: easy to put on, measured like a collar, cushioned fabric around arms allows comfort

Stress free walks!

We have an 8lb miniature doxie who LOVES loves loves to pull, usually to the point of choking herself. We've tried leash-training her to "heel", and get results on the leash if we're in the house or in our backyard but as soon as we go out anywhere else and try the same training with distractions she starts pulling again. I have a bad shoulder, wrist, and hand, which makes walking difficult at times anyway, and forget it if I decided I wanted to take a cup of coffee on my morning walk with her - she's actually been known to dart and pull the leash (and me) so hard that I end up wearing more coffee than I get to drink. Who would have thought that my tiny dog would have that much power!?! I picked this halter up earlier this week because I know how much Frankie likes to go for walks, and I was getting to the point where walking her was becoming so frustrating it was easier to just let her out in our postage stamp of a backyard (not fun for her, and no exercise for me!). We tried this halter in the house first, and I'll be darned she walked next to me, made eye contact when I spoke to her, sat when I asked her to (on a leash?! Miracle. Seriously). Last night I took her for her first outside walk and as usual she tried to pull but as soon as that leash went tight she stopped and looked straight at me and waited until we started moving again. It was the most pleasant walk we've had in a LONG time.
I would have given this product five stars, but due to limited sizes I felt that four was more appropriate. The small *JUST* fits my little mini doxie, and little dogs do pull hard too - this should definitely come in a mini or petite size.
My parents have a large beagle that nothing has worked on - they will be receiving one of these ASAP so he can go on nice walks too =)
Pros: works as stated on package, adjustable
Cons: not quite small enough for miniature breeds

I bought this for my 4 month old Lab, I had to buy the small size for the collar to fit him but then the straps were too short. After making a new set of straps out of small nylon rope, the harness worked for about a day. Once the dog use to it he went back to pulling just as hard as he did before.

At only 4 months old each walk became more and more difficult. I was on the verge of giving up on walking my puppy. The regular collar never worked, the harness only worked as a hanging tool, and with the Halti she just dropped to the ground and refused to move.
I put this on in the store to try it before I bought it. I couldn't believe it. She walked like a dream. As soon as she tried to pull to visit someone at the store she stopped herself. We've been walking every day and this harness has made it possible to focus on some of the other necessary training while outdoors. She might try a brief jump here and there but she quickly corrects herself and it is becoming less frequent.
I bought a large even though she is only 20 lbs. As a Shepherd/Pit mix, she has a stocky build and the harness just fits on the smallest setting, so she should grow into it fine even if she only reaches 35 or 40 lbs, as predicted by the vet.
You might need some help from a friend to put it on until your dog is accustomed to it. Mine is still a little shy, but I think that is because of her experience with the Halti. It gets easier each time.
We are becoming very good friends. It may have saved our entire relationship ;)
Pros: it works
Cons: can be tricky to put on

We adopted a 2 year old German Shepherd mix from a shelter, and she had never had even basic obedience training. Our high energy dog absolutely had to be walked twice a day, but she would continually paw at gentle leaders that fit over her mouth and pull to the point of choking herself with a regular collar.
I tried the Sporn harness, and the transformation was instantaneous. My ball of energy now walks in the heel position for miles at a time, only moving out of that position when I allow it. As much as I might like to pretend this abrupt change was due to my superior training skills, a recent walk using only her collar quickly dispelled that idea!
The only reason I gave this a 4 star review rather than 5 is because the padding that slips over the harness is not thick enough to prevent chafing under the dog's arms. I was able to quickly remedy this with an extra layer of foam padding, and we have been walking 4-6 miles a day since then with no additional problems.
Pros: stops pulling, easy to use
Cons: padding is not thick enough

I have a pitt bull/bull mastiff mix who is pretty much still a puppy, he's almost a year old. This worked great with him at first but now he just pulls harder when I use it. He also figured out how to get out of it but has only done it once and I am disable so it is hard for me to walk him when he pulls me around. It may work with some dogs but I don't think this will work with all dogs.
Pros: did work at first, comfy fit
Cons: may not work with all dogs, easily to slip out of, urges some dogs to pull more

I purchased these harnesses for my 2 English Pointers after first trying the Gentle Leader. My dogs still pulled as hard as they could with the gentle leaders on and rubbed the skin on their noses raw. I absolutely love the Sporn halter! My dogs are bird dogs, so they pull very hard when they spot a bird. With the halter, they are not able to pull me down when they decide to take off after, or flush, a bird on our walks. The sherpa straps also do a great job protecting their skin.

I just took my 50lb pitbull for a walk with this harness for the first time. I have to say this is the MOST enjoyable walk I have even been on with her. Now, my pup thinks she's a hunting dog and will take off after any bird or squirrel she sees. Some days I wake up with a sore back because she pulled so hard the day before!! She is solid muscle and has made me loose my balance and fall more than once. I am 6 months pregnant and was worried that I wouldn't be able to walk my dog with a stroller at the same time. Now, I'm confident I will be able to!I am going to recommend this to anyone that has trouble walking their dog.

I was at my wits end with my 50lb border mix Jasper. Not only could I not walk him without being dragged, he would hurt himself pulling so hard. I got this after the trainer at the store suggested it. The first time I used it, I put it on him, he pulled twice, threw himself on the ground and had a fit, then got up and walked like a big boy. I was so proud of him. After 5 years of searching, we have found a winner, I couldn't be more thrilled!

Was eager for this to work for comfort sake, unfortunately
my dog figured out how to escape by standing up, doing a stretch and pulling her neck out, takes her about a second.
I tried tightening harness all the way but due to stretchiness
of the harness, she can still get free. I wish I could find a harness that works, this is the 2nd brand I've tried without success.
Pros: comfort
Cons: easy to slip out of
