THIS FIXTURE IS ONLY FOR EMITTING THE UVB I NEED FOR MY RED EAR SLIDER AS WELL AS LIGHT FOR THE TANK. I HAVE IT ALONG SIDE MY HEAT LAMP AND IT'S BEEN DOING GOOD.

works well... and to the other review this light isn't meant to be for heat its only for uvb rays... its meant to be used in combination with a basking bulb.. i would remove the acrylic cover though other than that its a good lamp

I bought this product because it was the only unit available at my local Petsmart that didn't include a full-tank cover and/or mesh; it was the fixture and the light itself.

The first unit had to be returned because it would not turn on unless I tipped it upside-down. It would then flicker for a long time before fully turning on. The bulb installation was NOT the problem.

The replacement unit seemed to work alright for the first hour, but then it began overheating and created a funky smell in my room. It had not been resting against anything that it shouldn't have touched.

I returned this product and am waiting for Petsmart to restock the Exo Terra brand. The staff at my local store admitted this ESU product is terrible and told me to go with Exo Terra.

**Also, if you read on the box... it claims 'Super UV Lamp'. The light has a 3% UVB output which only suits nocturnal, desert animals. The UVA output is 7% which is also on the low side.

Not enough heat

I bought this light for my water dragon. While the fixture itself is nice, the bulb isn't. It doesn't get hot enough. No, let me rephrase that: It doesn't get hot; it gets warm. I can touch it when it's been on for hours.

I would return it, however I accidentally let it get too close to one of my other lights, and it melted slightly. It still work fine though, so I'm still using it.

I will be buying a new bulb that will fit the fixture (I do rather like the fixture itself, as I mentioned previously). Hopefully with a new bulb, it will get warm enough.

If you are buying this for heat, consider something else, or buy a new bulb. If you want it only for a UVB light, have at it.
