PROS: I purchased this aquarium in September 2008. It is a beautiful aquarium and I get lots of compliments. It doesn't have front seams because the rounded edges are made from a continuous sheet of acrylic. The aquarium has seams to attach the front to the back and the bottom to the sides. The seams are nicely done and you can't see any glue. Unfortunately, beauty is only skin deep.
CONS: Casco, makers of Sea Clear, have engineered a brace that is screwed into place at the top of the aquarium. It's 6 inches wide, made of clear acrylic, and is attached at the center. I presume this is to give the aquarium more strength. It's ugly but you can't see it if you use the Eclipse hood. The biggest issue is that instead of having one space 24" wide (the aquarium is 12" x 24") in which to work (like cleaning, decorating, etc.) you have two spaces that are 9 inches wide. The Eclipse hood makes the space even smaller. The filter is in the hood so removing it for more access is very difficult without spilling a lot of water. The brace also makes it difficult to clean or catch fish because you must raise whatever tool you are using to move it from one side to the other.
The aquarium is very fragile. Aquarium #1 arrived with a large crack starting at the screwhole for the brace, but PetSmart quickly sent a replacement. Aquarium #2 arrived with the same problem. Aquarium #3 arrived undamaged, but I saw the UPS driver scoot the box to the door of his truck, allow it to drop two steps, then pick it up to carry to my front door.
Customer Service or Customer-No-Service because Casco's customer service doesn't exist. I enjoyed aquarium #3 until December 2009 when it began to leak. It's warranted against leakage for life, so I contacted Casco. The customer service rep approved the replacement and had everything in order on December 18th. Phone calls and promises became the norm. She told me it would be shipped soon or that it had been shipped, but couldn't find the tracking numbers, and on and on...
This aggravating saga continues until three months have passed and 6 aquariums have been shipped. Aquarium #6 finally arrives on March 15, 2010, and now it leaks.
I'm in limbo waiting for aquarium #7.
Pros: gorgeous
Cons: fragile, poor design, poor customer service at manufacturer
