I had gotten the Marineland penguin 200 model for my 40 gallon African Cichlid tank. After about a month, my filter began to make the occasional loud noise and as the months went on, the noise got more frequent until the filter sounded like it was about to short out. Then, one day I came home and my filter was off and I checked the power cords and everything, I even cleaned the whole filter and I guess it just shorted out. The only reason why I gave this 2 stars is because it keeps my water very clean, but other than that, I would just save up to buy a fluval canister filter.

I bought the 200 and it works great. It is so quiet compared to my other filter. I put it on my new 45 gallon tank which now has fish. It was very simple to put together and like the option for the middle intake for different circulation.

The bio wheel allows air bubbles to get moved through out the take.

So far this no issues and a great filter.

I am just a year into owning my first tank and bought a 29 gallon kit for my kids which my wife has since said is now my obsession. But I was running an Aqueon quietflow 30. Which was an ok filter but its flaws were its intake tubes lack of depth for cycling the water. Alot of times bacteria would not be filtered and settle on the bottom giving that visiable yellowish water. So constant vacuuming and partial changes were needed.

So I decided enough was enough and went with the advice from many more experienced fish keepers in regards to its not a bad thing to over filter. I decided to go with Marinelands penguin 350 Bio-Wheel.

Upon setup I thought it was going to be loud until I put the top plastic pieces on and now it is just as quiet as my Aqueon was. But the big perk was that the intake tube that cycles the water had an extension that put the strainer of the tube 3 inches from the bottom of my tank, on top of that it has an adjustable mid level intake strainer. In 24 hours the water is crystal clear. Another advantage is it runs 2 filters and two wheels so cycling these is going to be great as I will alternate when they are changed to always have a good supply of bacteria built up for the tanks biological filter. The waterflow is excellent allowing for increased oxygen movement in the tank and I have noticed my fish are alot more active. Fish activity and water clarity are a must as it is a family room display.

I have never had a problem with ammonia levels or PH just the murkiness of the water and this took care of it.

I reccommend this product and when I move onto my first big tank project in the near future I will be using 2 Marineland Bio Wheel Emperor's the 450 version for tanks of up to 90 gallon.

The biowheel allows for the bacteria to grow and also hit some oxygen gas. This allows for it to grow faster and more efficiently. Also, the filter as a whole is very quite if properly set up and filters much better than any filter I have had. The only downfall is the value of the carbon cartridges you must buy. They run about $4-5 each and can get quite expensive if you change it every 3-4weeks.

I love Marineland products. I have never been dissapointed in their products and I think it is worth every penny and more to spend the extra money to get a nice filter. I have own both the 50 gallon and 75 gallon capacity penguin filters. I love the biowheels (they help reduce ammonia) and the filters work silently and impressively well. My tanks are always spotless and always a conversation piece when we have visitors. Thank you Marineland for making my life easier!

I have had the 350 running on my 50G tank for over 7 consecutive years. It has never let me down with regular cleaning. It keeps my water crystal clear, and the bio-wheels keep the biological filtration going. It only gets noisy when it needs a good cleaning. No other filter can compare to this unless you are going to upgrade to a cannister style which are far more expensive.

easy to setup and very powerful. Filter is quiet and cleans the tank really well. I have a 29 gallon tank which the 350 might be an overkill but just cleans the tank that my other filter didn't do.

I bought the Marineland Penguin 200 for my 30 gallon fresh-water fish tank that I am in the process of setting up. The power filter is very easy to install but I'm fairly confident that this particular model has across the board defective impellor issues. I have adjusted the impeller every way possible to eliminate, or at least reduce, the amount of noise created but to no avail...
Time to go back to the drawing board and do more research on other brands of power filters before I replace this sub-par filter.

i got a 20 gallon tank for christmas and so i got the 150 for it. it was easy to put together, only i had to fill it with water to get the cicle going. other than that, it is great. nice and quiet. the only thing is that the intake isnt coverd,[like most power filters], so i bought a sponge intake cover from the best pet store, petsmart, and put it on. i suggest the all of u do the same, espesially if u have a longfined fish.

I have the 350 model on my 55 gallon tank, and i love it. The flow rate is great to keep water circulating on that side of the tank (i have a 700 gph powerhead on the other side). Replacement cartridges last fairly long, and there is room to sneak other media types in to it. Quiet, powerful, good buy. I also have the 100 model on my 15 gallon column tank, and it's done just as well for that.

I have purchased 2- 400 GPH Marineland filters and 2-200 GPH Marineland filters over the past 3 months for 3 aquariums. One of the 400 GPH filters leaked right out of the box and had to be returned. One of the 200 GPH filters stopped working after less than a month. I took it off the tank and found the motor to be too hot to touch. I waited till it cooled off, tested it in the sink for a good 30 minutes and then rehung it. It stopped again after less than a week. Poor construction. There is nothing caught in it, there is no reason for it not to be working. Tired of returning them so will be trying a different manufacturer from now on.

I ordered the Marineland 200. It was on back order so I went into a store and was able to buy one. I brought it home and set it up. It stopped working after 5 days. I had recieved the one that I ordered and did not open the box because I was going to send it back. When the one from the store stopped working I went and opened the box. To my surprise it was not the one I ordered, it was a 100 Marineland. I had to set it up because the bigger one stopped at 9:00pm. I am so unhappy with this product and unhappy that petsmart sent me the wrong one. I now have to go out a buy a new one and hope that it will work.

This is a great filter and is worth the cost. I bought the 100 which is rated for up to 20 gallon for my 10 gallon. My water was cloudy and dirty due to the Topfin filter not working all that well. I installed it and it cleared up the water to crystal clear within 3 hours. All the fish are now moving and swimming more now. The reason why I give it a 4 and not a 5 is because of the instructions and it would be great to have a few other extensions for the inlet at different length. Over all very happy with the product.

I bought one of these about 3 days ago while it was on sale. I just bought a 29 gallon bowfront tank to upgrade my current 10 gallon glofish tank. This filter is massive alot bigger than I thought. I had to cut out my center brace to fit this. Alot people complain about the loudness it is loud without the cover on the bio wheels or if your water level is lower than it should be. It cycles 350 gph. But with the cover on and water level correct it is very quiet. The mid level strainer helps in deep tanks. It also has extra media slots that I will be adding extra filters too. It is important to have 10x filtration to maintain clear and healthy water and requires less overall maintenance. I have 6 glofish and they love the current from the filters to swim against it. I will update this after a month or so.
