After trying a different system of tanks .. I will not buy anything but Eclipes systems by Marineland. The filtration .. 3 stage .. keeps all my fishies healthy, beautiful, and most of all happy as the water stays clean and all my test readings say that my water is great. Of course you have to do vacuming and treat new water ... but other than that .. all I need to do is love them all which is the fun part.

I got this tank a week ago and I love it! I have 3 guppies, 2 cory catfish, a tetra, and a female betta so 7 total in the tank. I went from a 2.5 gallon tank to this one and my original 3 fish, the betta, a guppy, and the tetra all seem thrilled about all the space! I have a log that I bought from petsmart and about 5-7 live plants. They love playing in the waterfall and the bubbles! The lighting is marvelous, but the problem ive had with it is that it flickers for a few seconds before it comes on. Thats the only reason why I gave it a 4 out of 5 for the overall rating and quality.

Pros: easy to set up, looks amazing, filter is quiet and runs smoothly

Cons: the light flickers for a bit before it turns on

Okay, so I got it a day ago, seeing the great reviews and all I thought it was great. When we decided to wash the gravel, my dad pushed the bucket into the tank, which made this HORRIBLE scrap on both the front and back.

Remember, this is only 24 hours after we bought it. So now, I either have to live with this ugly scratch or I have to buy a 100 dollar replacement.

How fair is that? It's not fair at all!

Pros: great looking at first...

Cons: scraped the day i bought it!

I bought this tank 2 years ago and I love it just as much today as I did then. I started out with this tank and then moved to a 65 gallon (very sad it wasnt the same brand) but I wanted something bigger to expand my fish population. I now have this tank, my 65 gallon and 5.5 gallon. Out of my tanks, this is by far the best! It is amazing! The filter system works great and I have recommended this product to soooo many people! This is definitely the tank to go with! I had 3 angel fish, 2 gourohmis, 2 clown loaches, 2 bala sharks and lots of platys and all fish did well.

Pros: quiet, clean lines, amazing!

I have had this tank for about two weeks now and I love it. I have the Eclipse Hex 5 gallon tank as well (for almost two months now) and it is the reason I bought this 12 gallon one. The Eclipse systems are so quiet and keep the water so clear. In my 12 gallon, I have a male betta, 3 albino cory catfish, & 1 peppered cory catfish. I think they really like this tank because none of them are shy. They're all very active! The cartridge is very easy to change and the bio-wheel seems to be doing its job.

I love the way the tank looks and how the filtration runs. I keep it in my bedroom and all I hear at night is a slight babbling-brook sound --the kind of sound that people purchase those zen waterfalls for. It's great!

The only thing negative I have to say is the lid design is quite inconvenient to life when its time to do a water change. I'm a small girl and I can't fit my arm in the top flap that's designed to open for feedings because the filter is in the way and occupies over half of the open space. So if I have to reach inside the tank, the whole lid needs to come off and the light is attached to the lid so I can't really see so well in there. The condensation of water on the lid also drips as its being removed so be sure to lay towels down before removing the lid! I gave it four stars instead of five because the lid is a major pain.

Pros: quiet filtration, keeps water clear, looks great!, my fish love it :)

Horrible design and flimsy quality! Nothing at all like the Eclipse 1,2 or 3 hood systems. It is quite difficult to access and maintain. The acrylic tank scratches way too easily. I would not recommend it even as a "beginner" tank. I think it would frustrate and discourage anyone from pursuing fish keeping as a hobby. The compact fluorescent lighting is inadequate and only lights about half the tank. The whole top has to be removed to clean the filter and drips everywhere. I have used the Eclipse 1 and 3 systems that fit over rectangular glass aquariums (usually purchased separately) for several years and they work very well. I would definitely recommend them BUT certainly NOT this System 12 version!! I feel like I wasted $90.00 and am very very disappointed!

I have to admit, this is one of the nicest looking aquariums sold. It is a great starter tank. The only problem I had, was that the filter that was built into the aquarium, broke in less than a month. But Petsmart replaced it without any questions. Overall this tank is worth the money.

I am very pleased with this system. Everything works and its very quiet. You will need a heater. I used Bio-Spira to cycle the tank with good results and fish can be added right away. You will need a water test kit also. Great appearance, nice size, runs great. I would recommend this product to anyone. *****

like many people on here i agree the apperince is very nice but it doesnt allow for add on options and i bought this tank for a nano reef that i was setting up and i was in need of a product that was small and compact so i bought this thinking it was a good choice, the filration wasnt the best but in a nano reef the live rock does most of the filtration so after i cycled the tank for 6 months i started to add coral, soft & hard but i quess i didnt do my research very well because when i went to pick ot the coral that i was goin to have in this tank the guy at the store told me that with the coral i was using that the light was ok to use but it wasnt the best so i was looking to see if i could find a light that i could use with coral but i couldnt find one the same size as the one in this tank so i hard to make a few modifications to the tank but all around the tank is very good and i would recommend it to other but do planning to find out what you are wanting to put in the tank and what the inhabidents in the tank will need before makeing a purchace but im planning on buying another E 12 for a fish only saltwater tank so im not goin to have to worry about light as much as with the nano reef tank

I bought my aquarium 1 week ago tomorrow. I turned off the pump so I could change out the water and when I plugged it back in, it didn't work. I immediately took it back to Petsmart and they exchanged it for another one. It didn't work either. I will probably take the whole aquarium back and try a different brand.

The aquarium itself has been a great addition to my household decorations/furniture but I have had to replace the entire white lighting fixture twice within 4 years. Marineland has been great about replacing it free without a receipt or warranty registration card, but it is a hassle to have to go through the process. The white light fixture seemed to corrode from the inside out and with moisture getting inside, it would blow every new bulb I put in. Just keep an eye out for this. Otherwise, the aquarium system is wonderful.

I just bought and set up this aquarium yesterday and it is great. It looks good and is just the right size for me. The light is bright and clear and does not distort the water.
The only issue I had was when setting up the filtration system. It didn't seem to be working but I poured an extra cup of water directly into the filter cartridge and it started it going just fine. And it's very quiet!

I purchased 12G Eclipse from Petsmart .com(took a week to deliver). Setup was easy and the construction was solid (except for the tank cover door, whose hinge broke easily). Lighting was compact and sufficient for artifical plants. Filter and biowheel were quiet (water should be a a correct level fo this). Took more than a month to cycle. Lamp failed within a week. Took it to the store and swapped a new one. Now I have 3 mickey mose platys, 3 dwarf sunburst platys, 2 neon tetras, 4 ghost shrimps and 3 mickey mouse platy frys within a breeder tank inside Eclipse.

I have owned an Eclipse System 12 for a couple of years now and have not had any of the problems that I have had with my glass aquariums. I love that the tank is acrylic and that I dom't have to worry about leaky seals or anything. It always looks good and I constantly get compliments from my guests about how great it looks. I like that it is compatible with most types of heaters. The filter is very powerful and quiet and has not let me down since I got it. The replacement filter cartridges are a bit expensive, but it is truly worth it. I would recommend this tank to anybody, beginner or novice.

This tank is great for starters. It has a quiet filter which keeps the tank pretty clean, and it comes with a great quality light. Be careful though, because it can get scratched very easily because the tank is made out of plastic. Over all, this tank is excellent and Ive had it for a year,and there has not been one problem with it so far. The price is cheap too, and you will not regret it once you buy it.

this set up is great!! its extremely easy to set up and use, my fish love it and the curve on the front makes it look amazing!! everything about it is great except for the fact that it scratches easy, so just be careful putting in ornaments and gravel. other than that this tank is perfect, great for people who want a easy set up, beginners or people who want a easy beautiful tank

This tank is great. I've had it one week now. Set-up was easy. Filter is quiet. Keeps the water clean so far. And the bio-wheel seems to be doing its job. I have 1 betta and 6 glowlight tetras in the tank. All are happy and healthy! Just do your water changes and filter maintenance on time, especially for smaller tanks.

...this is NOT the aquarium to start with!

I've always loved Marineland products. Their Bio-Wheel technology is not replaceable by other manufactures, especially considering the price range. I have a Hex-5 (which is working out pretty good) and this Eclipse 12.

It's a beautiful tank and relatively easy to maintain, if you keep beginner fish such as mollies and goldfish. But if you are looking to enrich the tank with more delicate fish and plants, you will regret that you got this tank.

The tank does not allow options to add any other devices that may be needed by fish and plants. The opening for the wire and tubes is simply too small. There is no way to add more lighting due to the way the hood is made. (The lighting that comes with the tank is 10W, far less than the 2W/gallon needed by most plants.) Worst part is that (and I wish I found out about this b4 purchasing this product) the filtration motor is KNOWN to fail easily. To replace the part, it's at least $25. The quality of the acrylic walls is also disappointing. It gets scratched just too easily and the permanent mark ruins the display...

I'm still a Marineland fan and will continue to purchase their other products. But this tank is just not worth the money and trouble.
