Light malfunctions,

Cons: light fixture can be unreliable
"I bought the Eclipse 6 tank in December for my betta. I love the sleek look of this tank and its generous size gives my betta plenty of space to swim. It is even large enough to fit a 25 watt Marineland Visitherm Stealth heater to keep my betta's water warm (78-80F). I'm not convinced that the biowheel provides any extra filtering benefit compared to an Aquaclear filter, but having the Marineland filter inside of the hood makes it easy to place this tank on an end-table without it looking messy from a hang-on-the-back filter.
Two days before Christmas the light fixture would not turn on. I had to wait 4 days before I could reach the Marineland customer service calling center due to the holidays. It was very easy to request the new part since they did not require a receipt of purchase. It took 2 weeks to get the new light fixture in the mail (i.e. my betta and live plants were in the dark for 2 weeks). Overall, I was very happy with how easy it was to order the new part.
UNTIL...today. My light is not working again after only a few weeks from receiving the replacement part. I checked underneath the plastic light cover and found no moisture there. I tried a new bulb but that did not work either. I have live plants and I -need- a reliable light fixture on my tank. I'm very tempted to get a 2nd replacement light fixture and then sell this tank to buy a more reliable setup. Now my betta and plants have to sit in a dim tank again and I don't get the benefit of coming home to a beautiful tank for another 2 weeks.
Overall, I would recommend the Eclipse 6 tank because of its sleek design but I must warn that you may have problems with the light fixture."

"Got a goldfish from a friend in a smallish round bowl. Checked on internet about goldfish needs and bought this 6 gallon tank. Both my goldfish and I love it. Was easy to set up and lots of room for fake plants and structures. The pump runs very quiet and keeps the water clear and clean. It is easy to feed the goldfish by lifting the back lid and putting the food on a spoon and dumping it in. I changed the filter after two months and cleaned everything up at the same time and put in two gallons of fresh water. My goldfish is healthy and loves the extra room the tank provides. I hardily recommend it as a quality product."

"The Eclipse 6 is my first aquarium and it has made things so much easier. I'm happy and my fish are happy. A lot of people complain about having to lift the lid to feed the fish but you really don't have to. You can feed them with the smaller lid flap, it's just easier to spread the food around if you lift the lid. It took my filter a few days to catch up but it's doing a great job now. My tank is clean and clear. I just have to rinse the filter once a week. I would definitely recommend this product to a friend. It's easy and makes having fish fun."

"I've kept fish since I was a kid and the Eclipse 6 is the best system I've had yet. Until recently I've been using the Eclipse 3, but I accumulated several fish and out grew it. They are very easy to set up, very easy to maintain. Due to the excellent filtration, the tank cycles a lot quicker than conventional aquariums. A lot of people have commented on the crystal clear water. Having all of the filtration parts under the hood provides a lot more room in the tank for the fish and decor, and there's plenty of room for a small heater if you keep tropical fish. It even comes with a flourescent light instead of incadescant, which is a lot cooler when lit. And unlike some systems that use external pumps or power filters, it is virtually silent, barely makes a sound. I highly recommend it to experienced as well as beginner hobbyists. Unless you over crowd or over feed, it's almost impossible to fail with this system!"

"This tank is perfect! well except for the fact that when you feed your fish you have to take off the whole top its awesome because is comes with everything you need to keep your fish tank healthy, and the filter is really good so you might have to clean it out 2 times a year."

One of the Better Aquarium Kits out there!,

"Unlike most aquarium kits on the market, this is one of the few worth buying. This is one of the first aquariums I've ever gotten and I have had it for over 5 years. The bio-wheel filter is excellent and very quiet and is perfect for the tank as long as you dont overstock or overfeed it. The flourescent lights in the hood saves a lot of energy while brilliantly lighting up the tank. The closed hood helps to slow the evaporation rate of your water and most importanly, this tank is a real space saver since the filter is positioned in the hood. There is no filter hanging in the back so you can place the tank flush up against the wall. The tank itself is made of acrylic which is more susceptible to scratches than the average glass aquariums, but if there are little children or rowdy animals present, this tank is a lot safer because it is more durable and less likely to shatter than glass aquariums. I really recommend this tank for beginners because it takes the fuss out of buying the right filter and lighting, giving you more time to enjoy the fish. On top of that, it's very easy to clean and maintain. Two Thumbs Up :) P.S. When shopping for Algae scrubbers, make sure to buy ones with acrylic safe sponges to avoid scratching up the view."

Good Appearance but no good way to feed the fish,

"The tanks appearence on the outside was great when I got it but when it was time to feed the fish there was no good way to feed the fish. To feed the fish you would have to take the top off the tank. Other than that though the tank was very nice. Very bright light so you could see the fish very well. Overall very nice tank."

"This aquarium is the best. It has a superb filtration system and a great look to it. Unlike the Hexagon shaped tanks, you can see the fish inside really well. It also is very quit, so if you have it in your bedroom, you can fall asleep real easily. Another great thing about the tank is that it kills any bacteria in the tank, and fast! I recommend this tank to everyone."

Totally Frustrated,

"This has been my worst experience with a product, and I have been keeping fish for close to 20 years. I received this system as a Christmas present for my desk. I was thrilled.
After the first month, the filter motor burned out completely. Luckily I did not lose any fish, and petsmart quickly replaced it. Today, after only four months of use, a crack in the bottom of the tank has sprung a leak. This is a tank that has not been moved, jostled or anything and is completely stationary.
This is a bad product and I could not recommend it."

"this is wionderful...I have 4 marineland tanks from 3-12. this products are awesome and attractive and durable. Despite problems you may encounter with cleaning with a self start gravel cleaner, you can purchase a battery operated to clean that works great. They are available in other pet stores and some petsmarts.....Marineland is the best and is worth every penny you put into this system!!!!"

Great Little Tank With Few Drawbacks,

"It's great that a tank so small was designed with a Bio-Wheel and ample mechanical filteration (not the cheap undergravels that most desktop tanks have). These features allow you to have a complete aquaria ecosystem, versus just a few fish in a cheap plastic tank that will die shortly due to an inappropriate habitat. The only caveat with this tank is that it's acrylic (scratches if you're not careful), and its small size lends a cleaning/vacuuming problem. Gravel cleaners that are size-appropriate for the tank (like Petsmart's mini-sized vacuums) do not have enough suction to lift your gravel. The cleaners that are powerful enough are too large for the tank. I ended up purchasing Petsmarts small-sized vacuum and even its size makes for a cumbersome task. I must remove the filteration system and all ornaments to get the vacuum submerged for a siphon (the up and down pumping motion to start siphoning does not work in such a small tank). However, if you don't mind that bit of extra work during your water changes, this is a dynamite little aquarium that packs a lot of features into its compact size. This is one of the first small systems I've seen that will allow you a complete and proper environment so as to keep your fish happy and healthy for life."

"I got my eclipse 6 as a graduation present to add to the 12 gallon I already had. Its been 5 years and its still running strong. I have had to replace the motor wires once because the dog chewed them up but the marineland people had another one to me with in 48 hours. The curved front is excellent for viewing my fish. Great product!"
