I got this for my 2 gallon tank and it worked amazing the filter isn't that quiet but it's still more silent then my old one. It cleaned up my tank the minute I put it in and my fish seem happy with it and it also fits in my tank perfectly

I bought this a few years ago for a betta. The air pump died within a few months. I probably could have returned it, but seeing as I was only a little kid it didn't occur to me. I've gotten goldfish since then and have a much bigger tank and much more powerful filter system going on in with them.
I wanted to get another betta, so I went out and bough a different air pump. All the filter needed was an air pump to get it going. It's wonderful for bettas because it's not too strong for them. You can also easily make your own cartrige to save some money.
I recommened this filter for any betta owner!

I've noticed a lot of the negative reviews mention that they have goldfish in a tiny tank and for some reason this filter stops working. This filter works fine for what it should be used for, a betta. Goldfish are HUGE waste producers and should NEVER be kept in anything smaller than a 20 gallon. For a goldfish you need a filter that's about twice as big as the aquarium needs, so no wonder it doesn't work when you put 3 goldfish in a 2.5 gallon. This little filter isn't meant to take in so much waste so it fails.
Now for a betta in a 2 gallon, this filter works great. My betta loves it and it does it's job just fine. My only cons are that it is a little tall for my 2 gallon Kritter Keeper and the use of an air pump causes bubbling just behind the cartridge, so I constantly hear bubbles popping. Luckily, that doesn't bother me and there's never any rattling. The plastic is quite thin, but I didn't feel like I was in danger of breaking it during the very easy setup. When I get more bettas in other 2-2.5 gallon tanks I'll be getting this filter again.

I recently bought a small 2 gallon aquarium, and I was looking for a small filter for my tank. Finally I was able to find something suitable, and it works like a charm. I really don't have any problem with the filter itself or the cartridges. Overall an excellent product and would recommend for a starter aquarium. Thumbs up!

I like this filter so far, it was easy to install: has a good flow to it and it doesn't seem to bother my little fishes, It is pretty silent and it's doing a good job at keeping my 2.5 tank clean . Good purchase!

my 1st one i bought, they second one came with a tank i bought used. their are bubbles flowing over the filter, that water isnt being filtered. i imagined it being quieter for something named Whisper. i've owned it for about 4 wks now and i will upgrading to something of higher quality

This product works amazing! My tank and fish are clean. Its not loud. Fits and looks great in my tank. I highly recommend this product for smaller tanks. My fish are not bothered by it and seem to like it a lot! Over all this filter is great! :)

I purchased this for my 2.5 gal tank a week ago as the underwater filter was not keeping the water clear. Within a couple of days the water was crystal clear.
Although the product is a bit flimsy(the reason for my rating on quality), if you handle it with care you will have no problems with the flip top lid breaking off as others have stated. The water flow seems to be fine for the danio's I have, but if you find it too strong you could get a valve to limit the flow.
Overall this is a great product for a small tank. Definitely would have given a 5 if the quality of the design was more durable.
I would recommend this product for small desktop aquariums.

I'v had the filter for about a month and a half. It does it's job corectly but the bio bags run out fast! I have gone though three bags already, reasently I had to through out one in a weeks useage. See I have all live plants in my saltwater tank... so that makes my tank dity fast. That is probly why the bags run out fast. And if you keep the bio bag dirty lots of bubble form at the top of the filter and makes the filter not work properly. It also gets louder. So I like the filter, it does it's job, but if you have live plants the bio bags run out fast!

I originally found these reviews because I was searching for a solution to a problem. I figured it out and wanted to share. When I installed the filter in the tank and started it up it made a loud rhythmic gurgling/burping sound. The instructions said to make sure that the outflow from the filter was above the water level, but it didn't specify how high and I'm new at this. I had it so high above the water level that the air pump was having to struggle to push the water up and out. I adjusted the water level to just below the overflow and it solved the whole problem. Also, I couldn't get the suction cups to hold so I used a paperclip to hang the filter from the side of the tank. The fish didn't seem to like the low grade hum from the motor so I set it on a potholder to reduce the vibrations and they are much happier now. (My son won a goldfish at an event, and the fish needed a friend, and that's how I wound up at your website.) :-)

I bought this in a hurry as my goldfish was gasping and couldn't find replacement filters for the old filter. the construction is a bit flimsy, however, very easy to install, very quiet except for some subtle bubbling noise and after one week my 2 gallon tank is still clean. fish is happy and swimming all over, enjoys the bubbles. replacement filters are easy to get. one word of caution, ignore the picture on the box and follow instructions when first setting up.

I've purchased two of these in the past. I was hoping I would have better luck with the second one, but I didn't. It pumps out a decent amount of water at first, but the product doesn't last long. After a few months it started to break, beginning with the lid breaking then the motor not working as well. It is easy to clean and installation is simple, but I just got tired of buying them. You get what you pay for.

I have this filter running in a 2.5 gallon tank that houses a betta and an african dwarf frog. I have had no issues with it, and it keep the water quite clean. I haven't really had issues with the pump. It virates like any other air pump, so some noise is inevidable. It's quite use friendly. I would definitely recommend using a check valve with this so the small pump doesn't get ruined in power outages. Overall it's a great price and it has worked quite well for me.

I am an avid aquarium hobbyist, so I've had a lot of experience with different brands and types of filters. I have two 25 gal aquariums- one with an Aqueon external (just for a powerhead since the tank is set up as "el natural" and the plants/fish take care of themselves) and one with a Marineland under-gravel. I like them both and have never had any noise/quality issues. Recently I set up a little 2.5 gallon for a male betta on my desk for something to look at, and thought I'd get a little something for aeration so I picked this filter up. The air pump is what creates the circulation so naturally I thought it would be perfect for this. I have to say I'm quite disappointed. It's super loud for a desktop filter, is taller than a lot of small aquariums to begin with, the filter top won't stay shut so it vibrates loudly, and after 2 days of filtering the water is still not showing any clearing (the chemical levels have, however, stabilized and my plants and betta are doing well). If it was quieter and higher quality I think this filter might be pretty great for small aquariums, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless they want something in this price range and don't care for the noise at all. I'll be going back to buy the Marineland internal filter before this rattly one drives me crazy. I guess you get what you pay for!

This is a good filter for a small tank i'd say that a 2.5 gallon tank would be about the right size for it. I bought it for my betta, Shiloh and it seems to be working.Over all i'd say it's a good filter :D

This filter is terrible. The only good thing about it is that it isnt loud. For one thing it took a while to turn on the first time and i had to hold it at a certain position. Another problem is that is says for tank 1-3 gallons but its to big. I put it in a 2.5 gallon tank and it took up alot of space and looked ugly in it. It would look way to big in a 1 gallon. And last is the biggest problem, it doesnt to what its supposed to. I put it in because the water had alot stuff in it and it didnt even clean it! I put it in then came back a few hours later and the water looked the same. Waste of money.
