I have this in my leo tank and it looks amazing. I would recommend this more than actual sand! It's colors are darker making it more appealing than normal sand I used for a 30 gallon and still have some leftover.
Pros: looks great, easy to clean

This is honestly one of the best desert products on the market right now, and that's being modest!
Sand normally becomes very sticky when wet, making it a nuisance to the animal and yourself when you're trying to replace a water dish. However, while the walnut can still stick, it brushes off easily and drops off on its own when dry. This means you don't have to wash your animal's feet or body every week. It has a lesser smell than most "sands" and still gives you that natural look that people are going for in their tanks. On top of that, while you shouldn't feed your animal in it's tank (for many more reasons than you don't want the substrate getting in their mouths), if you happen to do that with this, its not as bad as regular sand. The walnut is much less harmful on the intestinal track of an animal than sand can be.
It is also less dusty than normal sand and is lighter as advertised.
I run an Animal Care room at my University and all of our desert animals use this substrate.
Pros: looks great, easy to clean

I have been using the crushed walnut shell for over 3 yrs now! True you should not feed your gecko in it. So i have a seperate feeding cage. which makes clean up even easier. My Leopard gecko has a routine now. When i get home she pops out of her hiding place and waits for me to pick her up and go to her own little diner (feeding cage). The crushed walnit shells work out grab for me an my gecko.
Pros: easy to clean, looks great

Okay so after reading reviews on here and seeing some on youtube I bought this stuff thinking finally I had found something good for my leopard gecko. It clearly states on the back of the package don't feed inside the cage. Why even put it in a cage if u can't feed your pet in it? I thought to myself. Anyways I still bought it and tried it never the less. Well yes its light and yes there is no dust and there is no odor. It even conducts heat every nicely! With all that being said...It being so light cage belongings would slide everywhere! One day I feed my gecko in the cage just to see what would happen and he got loads in his mouth because it was so light. I took it out the next day. If u do as said and don't feed your pet in the cage I guess it would be fine but otherwise just not for me.
Pros: light, non dusty, no odor
Cons: light, cant feed pet inside cage

I have been using Zilla walnut shell bedding for a while now, and it is still the go-to favorite substrate for my uromastyx. He loves burrowing and digging in this, so I guess I can safely say he is in love with it! I'm really glad this is not as dusty as sand. Oh and it really does produce even heat, which is important to uros. All around, great bedding.
Pros: not dusty, clean, makes heat

We have used sand and alfalfa pellets before trying this. Everything else just smelled bad within a few days (alfalfa pellets smell like a barn from day one!) even with daily cleaning. The crushed walnut shells are easy to clean, don't smell, and our beardie took to it very quickly. I won't switch back to sand or alfalfa EVER.
