We looked around a lot and finally zeroed in on this one because we didn't want to spend a ton of money on a pet door. This one works fantastic. We use it inside the house. Cats go through it with no problems. The door is clear and the cats can and do look through it. I installed it in about 30 minutes--amazingly simple. I highly recommend it.

OK, but not very sturdy

We bought this cat door for an indoor room that is normally closed off but to which we wanted our cats to have access. It worked great at first, since we left it in the "unlocked" position all the time. Once we started playing with the settings, though... well, that's when the trouble started.
First, it became increasingly difficult to get the flap "set" into any one position because the slider no longer stopped at the right spot for the locking mechanisms to work. We may have been somewhat at fault here since we weren't always gentle with the slide, but it seems as though it should have been more sturdy.
Then, we decided that we'd like to keep the cats out of that room after all (going to gut/redo it), so after we confirmed that the cats were not in the room, we put the flap into the "locked" position and thought that was that. Well, if you know cats you know that there's nothing which fascinates them more than an area/person/thing they should leave alone, so they spent a lot of time trying to bust through the locked cat door. Eventually they were successful... and now the cat door is completely unusable, so I'm on the site today to shop for a replacement. :P
Bottom line: the door does what it says it will, but it a) needs to be handled with care by both humans and animals, and b) will probably need to be replaced sooner rather than later since it's not very sturdy overall.

I got this door for the once outside door that now leads to a sun room which is not heated or air conditioned so we wanted to keep the door closed. The 3 cats caught on quickly because they also have litter boxes with hard door flaps. Sometimes the youngest runs through the door full blast, which sometimes causes the cat door to come off its hanging hinge. The door needs to be held on more securely than the plastic piece that slides in and supposedly locks in place. Stays on most of the time but he is rough on it. Was a bit difficult to install on this door due to its extra thickness and it has panels. Had to rig up an extra piece of wood to put between the one side of cat door frame and panel of door. The door does its job, just need to keep an eye on it coming off the hinge.

This door is inexpensive and will function best on a solid door where the screws will stay put. I am not sure how long it would have lasted because with my door being a hollow door it will not stay on. The only thing holding one side of the door on is adhesive strips. The adjuster that keeps the door either closed, swinging only one direction, or going both ways doesn't work well. I would recommend a sturdier door over all.

For the cost of the door, it is a great value. my cat doesn't like the hard plastic door yet, so i just removed it. I will try to put it back in as soon as she is comfortable going throug it. If I need to lock the door i just snap the door back in and lock.

I put this on a hollow core door and it worked perfectly. I haven't had any trouble with it. It would be nice if the flap was flexible, but since my cats don't really care for flaps anyway I just left mine off. Both sides have stayed on the door for almost a year now, even with the rest of my family going in and out of the room ( the litter box is in a large closet where we keep various household items ). For the price you can't beat it.

This product did not fit well into a hollow core door. The side that was to be held on sticky tape came off the first time my cat went through the door. A while later, the screws holding the other side on eventually came free. I am currently searching for a product that attaches both sides together, so it will stay on the door.

This product has helped our household out tremendously. Keeps me from having to keep the bedroom door open all the time. Only had the item a few months and nothing has broken for me.

The inflexible door trapped my cat when she changed her mind about going through. I recommend a door with a flexible flap. Also, the locking mechinism fell out and the only thing holding one side of the frame in place is double stick tape. When used frequently, this is sure to pull loose.

Cat Door

September 8, 2006
by Chuck
fromFlorida
We purchased this door and installed it on the door exiting our home to the garage. This is where the litter box is stored. Our cats had thoughts at first about using it but after we put them through it a couple of times they seemed to enjoy using it.
After three years of service we had to purchase a new door because the fulcrum pin at the top of the door broke. We like it anyway and it is handy with its four way loking system.
