I've had dogs my whole life and always been nervous about cutting their nails at home. I found this product and thought that surely a sensor would alleviate my fear of cutting the quick. Wrong. The sensor works inconsistently, and not well at all. I ended up (with a green light) cutting my dog's nail back to the quick. She bled everywhere before we could finally get it to clot. Save yourself the heartache and a hurt puppy - just take them to the groomer.

I bought these because one of my dogs have black nails, but I do not recommend them. No matter how long the nails are, the clippers stay on the red color, which means not to clip.

Ok.... I'm not going to be angry and give so little information that you are confused and mark this as unhelpful. So here are my problems with this product.
* The "small dog" size is for dogs under 40 lbs. Chiwi (chihuahua) is 4 lbs. If you have a dog under 20 lbs., this product is likely to be too large and bulky. To get his nail into the clipper, we had to stick his entire finger on the little space between the plastic and clipper.
* The yellow light never goes on. It's either red or green. As soon as you turn it on, it's red. Put your finger in and take it out, it's green. Put it over your dogs nail, it's red. Go to the very tip of the nail, it's green. Try to clip a little bit and it turns red right in the middle of clipping, scaring you and making you stop midclip.
* The guillotine design is noisy. Try and clip a nail and your dog will be startled by the loud noise it makes.
* Blades are pretty dull. You clip them and you get nail shards all over your pants!
* Design does not look as pictures. It comes with two button cell batteries which took us 20 minutes to put in because of the difficult positioning, and we had to use tweezers to put it in. The three lights are all beside each other, not vertically like pictured. There is a cheap off/on switch below them.
* Expensive. They clip just as well as the ones you can get at the dollar store (and those are horrible).
So there you have it. We're just going to return them now. Thanks for reading. Hope I was helpful :)

I purchased this because of an incident where I barely clipped our dogs nail too short and caused one to have a few small droplets of blood.
I read the small leaflet of instructions twice before using the device. I did get it to identify the quick and agree that it does not accurately detect the location of the quick and leaves the nails way too long.
In addition, when clipping, it leaves the nail cracked and jagged. I thought it was me but found that it did this for another nail. The blade on my other nail clippers was much sharper and cut cleanly. This blade, unfortunately, did not cut cleanly. After that I decided it was time to return it.
I found that my Dremel on low would file down the cracked nail safely.

I don't know why there are so many bad reviews this product works great but have noticed that all the negative comments are women for some reason. You just have to take time and read the instructions then use this product and remember alot of the bad reviews here are from people who have not properly trained their dog to be use to clippers. You have to intergrate these products into you dog or cats life and reward them after for being good.

This product is not worth wasting your money on. I have a shih ziu and the clippers are so hard to pull together to clip the nail its outragous. Other than that the light that tells you if your too close to cut just goes crazy and if you have ayoung dog or a dogthat doesnt stay perfectly still its inpossible. I bought it and never was ableto use it because of these reasons.

After searching for the nail trimmers with a guard to protect from cutting too low, we came across this product and were thrilled with the concept. However, we discovered the indicator light stayed on the "red" (which is better than the opposite) no matter how far away we actually were from the quick. Also, when trying to trim the nail at a safe distance, we found the blade dull, and left the nail jagged. We filed it down manually afterwards. My husband and I were very disappointed with this product.

This product works fine as a clipper, but the quck finding option is a piece of garbage. I would not have spent the extra money for this! We ended up having to use a flashlight to find the quick anyway, just like our old clippers. Totally NOT worth it.

My 60 lb dog is wonderful with getting his nails clipped. He doesn't move at all. I say this because some reviewers said that maybe it would work better on a dog that is good with nail clippings. They are wrong.
No matter how many times I've tried, the lights never work right, or they only work way, way at the tip of a long nail. I tried this first on my dog's dew claws because they are clear. The clippers (no matter where on the nail I move the clippers to) have the green light on, and then when I close the handles so there is slight pressure on the nail, the red light turns on. This was in the middle of the nail (where the quick is) AND at the tip of the nail (no quick).
Do yourself a favor and don't buy this. It's a good idea, but falls very, very, very short of being a good product.
Cons: dull, loud, does not function properly

I purchased the product to use on my larger dog. I wanted to have something that was safe and easy to use. I was very disappointed. It did not clip well and the indicator lights did not work properly.

I have two darling, yet difficult puppies when it comes to clipping nails. I purchased the QuickFinder with the lights that tell you when when to clip and when not to. I was skeptical, but several clipped nails later without "problems" made me glad that I bought it! I am going to buy another for my sister. I would certainly recommend this product for anyone who is anxious about clipping nails!
Pros: worked perfectly every time.

I was really hoping this would work on my dogs (golden retreiver and english bulldog) but I'm sad to say it did NOT. I bought the one for large breeds, but it never "went green" except on one nail that was really long (dew claw). If I clipped their nails at the place where it said (green), they would be hobbling around on 3" stilettos, for crying out loud! Do yourself a favor and get a variable speed dremel. It takes a little longer to acclimatize them to the noise but you can do a MUCH better job. My dogs don't mind it at all now.
Cons: leaves nails way too long

I am paranoid about cutting the quick, so I bought these thinking that it would help me feel more confident. Not only are the bulky, but the lights can't decide when to cut or not. I'd have it on the same spot and by the time I was almost ready to cut, the light would turn red, which made me more nervous. Also, it split one of my dog's nails. I think I'll just stick with taking them to the groomer's to get it done or just take a Xanax before cutting their nails with regular clippers. THANKFULLY I have patient, good dogs that let me do it without complaining.

I bought this to trim my 3 Cocker spaniel's nails. "IF" your dog holds still for triming your fine but mine don't. Regular trimmers work much better without the extra cost and weight of this product.

I bought these clippers since I have never done nails my self before but have watched my dad clip the quick and I knew that I didn't want to do that with my puppy. I saw these and thought they would help me. I tried them and to find out my puppy hated them. The lights never worked right and made me almost clip the quick. The also didn't clip the nail right and left them sharp and jagged. When I returned them the lady said she has returned a lot of them.

I am finally able to clip my dogs nails without cringing! I have intermittently attempted to do this, not always wanting to have to use a grooming saloon just to clip nails. How many times have I clipped his quick? countless, and the products to help with that are messy and impossible to use. Now I use the quickfinder, it is simple! I had definately been cutting too much of before. Now I wait for the green light, squeeze the handle and it is done. I have not hit the quick once. My dog no longer growls at me or the clippers! I find myself doing the clipping more often and very quickly. In time of trying to save trips to the groomer, this product has save me 10 times over!!!

Extremely disappointed in this product. Difficult to use and does not cut well. If you have a dog who does not like nail trims and won't hold still, you will never be able to find the quick. Too awkward to use. Never could get it to work right.
