Shih tzu have small and kinda delicate teeth, so this food is a good fit for him. He seems to like it, because when he eats he tears it up. Somewhat expensive, but our dogs happy and healthiness is far more important. Will keep buying it to the very end, which will never happen.

My ShihTzu is going to be 3yrs old this April. I got him at 8 weeks & he was a fussy eater, to the point where I hand fed him any thing he would eat. At 6 months he became very ill, vomiting, etc. He stay at the emergency vet facility for three days with inflamed stomach lining, etc. I was at my wits end as to what to feed him and was wandering around Petsmart. I very helpful employee showed me Royal Canin dry dog food for ShihTzus. After trying to get him to eat the "rice & chicken" recommended by the vet, I tried the ShihTzu food. He loved it and has been eating it ever since & is healthy with no problems. Thank you Royal Canin !!!!

My shih tzu is a very picky eater. I had him on Royal Canin Mini Special for about two years and he would eat about a half cup per day if that much (we've had some tummy issues in the past). I decided to switch him to the Royal Canin Shih Tzu formula and I've never seen him eat so much in one feeding.

My dogs have very sensitive tummys. I had huge vet bills to stop the diarrhea but after this dog food no pet bills. Yes, expensive but better than vet bills.

I was excited to get Royal Canin Shih Tzu 24, seeing all the great reviews and how the owner's picky Shih Tzu only liked this particular food. Ares, being a super picky dog, would only eat his new foods for a day or two, then stopped, so I was looking for food that he could stick to longer than just a few days. The first day on Royal Canin, he absolutely loved it. He ate it as both treats and food, and still couldn't get enough. The second day, he hesitantly finished his bowl.. and the third day, he completely stopped eating it. The bag is only half-done, and we got it at the beginning of March. He'll only eat it if we mix it in with canned food, which is what we've had to do for quite a while. Without canned food, he won't eat it at all, not even if it's the only thing he can eat in an entire day.

Also, the ingredients aren't exactly the best. I love Ares, and only want the best for him. The first ingredient is chicken meal, which is better than by-products, but I'd still prefer chicken/deboned chicken instead. Also, it contains fillers and wheat gluten meal.

Recently we've been buying organic food, both wet and dry, but he still doesn't like the kibble (though he's fine with wet food). We're thinking about switching to The Honest Kitchen.

Shih Tzu's are notorious for being picky eaters! I tried all sorts of food, cheap, expensive, EVERYTHING! At meal time, our cat and our little Shih Tzu began switching bowls when we weren't looking! He was SO picky, he would have rather eaten cat food!

I picked this up and WOW! He gobbled up a whole bowl in MINUTES! My Shih Tzu was also struggling with dry skin, and this cleared it right up! His fur is so SHINY and healthy looking now! He eats it at meals, as training treats, I have never seen him so excited about a food!

I also love the bag! It's VERY sturdy and instead of having to find a big clip for the top, it actually seals closed! Such a convience!

Like many others, I gave it a 4 as an overall rating because of PRICE. $30+ could be a cell phone bill! The biggest bag only contains 50 cups, and if you feed your Shih Tzu 2 cups a day, in less than a month you have to go back and buy a new one! Although it's pricey, I definitely believe it's well worth it.

(Also, the bag says for Shih Tzu's up to 10 months. Mine is now 5 months, but the kibbles are the same size as the puppy food I had been buying and he had been eating for months! It's good for puppies, too!)

My shih-tzu absolutely loves this dog food. Because of the high price/lb compared to other dog foods I have tried 2 other brands and she will not touch them.

I purchased this product on a whim to see if my 3 Shih Tzu's would eat this, as they are quite fussy eaters. They loved it! I give it them both as a meal and also as a treat. They can't get enough of it.

I used Nutro Ulta for the first 2yrs of owning my Shih Tzu. He began favoring the cat food at that point. Loves his Royal Canin so much he asks for more after eating normal serving. Worth the extra expense.

before purchasing my shih tzu i had heard that they were picky eaters. this worried me as i have family members who own many small dogs, and they've always struggled getting their pups to eat store-bought food. by some stroke of luck, my shih tzu has always eaten anything i put in front of her, however, once she hit about 2 years old she started to be very picky about her food. she would drag a few kibbles from the bowl to the carpet and play with them, or sometimes not eat anything at all. everyone said that if she got hungry enough she'd eat, but low and behold this dog is stubborn, i tried every food on the market and she was not having any of it. i started to get really nervous and happened to stumble upon this royal canin at a petsmart location i don't usually go to. they happened to have the large bags of this specialty shih tzu food and i bought the whole thing because the price for the small bag was astronomical! although to be honest, the big bag wasn't that much of a bargain either. i looked at it as my last hope, and when i got home my dog finished her bowl in under 3 minutes. no longer do i have to leave food out and hope she'll pick at it just to get SOMETHING in her belly. now, i feed her on a regular schedule and she just goes crazy for this stuff! she polishes off every last crumb and is in great health, her skin and coat look fabulous and she's had no digestive problems. i am so thankful to have found this food, i wish more stores carried the big bags though because she goes through these small bags in a couple of weeks and they are pretty darn expensive. but honestly, if you're having problems getting your shih tzu to eat, this dog food is worth every single penny. you won't be disappointed!

My Shih Tzu has endured severly dry flaky skin and has been on shots, pills - anything and everything to attempt to control. His hair has been clipped short to help with his itching.

Since finding Royal Canin MINI Shih Tzu 24(TM) Formula I cannot believe the difference in his skin in only a month. He is nearly cleared up from all the skin irritation and no longer sufferes from the itching.

I have 7 other Shih Tsu's, and I can see improvements in their fur as well and temporary skin irritations any of them experienced seem to have gone away.

I think the cost of this product is high, but in my case, with all the precious Shih Tsu kids I have, I will continue to assume that cost in order to give them the best lives possible.
