Reviews for Science Diet Savory Entrees Adult Cat Canned Food
My old male cat is going through renal kidney failure issues. He does not like the prescription diet food but this he will eat. So far, his tests are showing he is holding his own. He has not lost any more weight to date either. All good.
I wanted to do right by the shelter cat I adopted by supplementing her dry food diet with canned food three nights a week. I assumed Science Diet was high quality food, so I chose the turkey entrée flavor. My cat happily ate the food three nights a week (eating high protein dry food at other meals) for three months but kept gaining weight. I did some looking on the Science Diet website and found out the reason my cat kept gaining weight was the terribly unhealthy high carb canned food I was feeding her, the same food I thought would be healthy. Turns out I was basically feeding my cat macaroni and cheese!
Check the Science Diet website. You'll find that basically all of their canned food is high carb (above 25%) and therefore very unhealthy for your cat! Remember that cats are strict carnivores, which means their bodies cannot process carbs; they just turn it into fat.
Very disappointing, but at least Science Diet is honest and reveals all the information about their food, unlike other brands.
When we got our little princess from the Humane Society, we tried different brands of wet cat food. She decided she likes Hill's Science Diet. (Of course, we have to drive ten miles to get it.) After some trials, she has managed to train us as to her favorites. She will eat most minced flavors but her favorite is Turkey and Giblets. She eats a half can twice a day and snacks on the dry food. She is one happy, contented, and spoiled cat.
I've been buying this food for years and my cats love it. Recently cans have been very runny (I get the minced/pâté kinds not the gravy kind). The cats come back hungry a short time after eating and it has the consistency of mud. It's not every can but it's been several cases that have had cans like that so it's not a fluke. I looked at the label and now water is the top ingredient. I'm switching brands to try out PetSmarts's brand - Authority. Jodie
My 12 year old cat Niko eats canned Science Diet wet food twice a day. His favorite is chicken. I like the consistency of this food; Some others are more like slices, which Niko licks the gravy off of and leaves the food. This food is more like a ground up consistency, which is what Niko seems to prefer. I keep the science diet dry food out all the time. Also, the pop top makes it so easy to open. No more can openers!
