It prevents the odor and adds a little color to the cage. The bedding makes it pretty hard for my hamster to burrow in, but it prevents odor better than any of the wood chip bedding that I've used before. It's also slightly less dusty than the wood chips.

I'd recommend it for your small pet

Good...but not for the whole cage

I like this bedding for several reasons: it keeps odor down, it's safe, and it adds color to the cage. However, I don't use it for the whole cage because my hamster is definitely a burrower, and it isn't super great for that. I really prefer Kaytee Clean & Cozy to this for the main bedding for that reason. I only use this under his wheel since its less 'puffy' so the wheel can turn easier, and in the corner he does his business in because its a bit more absorbent, I've found, and keeps odor controlled better.

This bedding is amazing. It covers odor and its great for burrowing. My hamster loves it and it keeps him warm. it is a bit expensive though and I do find it a little ridiculous that it's extra money for the colour :P
but otherwise its GREAT!!!! :) :)
