I just bought 2 of these starter kits for my kids, but not for fish. We are using them for hermit crabs. When looking around and comparing prices this was a great choice for our needs. The filter has no use in a hermit crab tank but they were good replacments for there small 3.5 gal. aquariums. the hood and the tank itself work great. This starter kit for fish.... I don't think I would recommend it. As in other reviews the filter is way to underpowered for a fully setup 10 gal. As a secondary maybe. The hood looks nice but with no glass to fully cover the bulbs this is going to lead to problems. The tank seems just fine though, much like any other 10 gal. in its price range. Well to sum up, if it is your very first time buying a tank you may want to think about spending a little more and getting something else. I can see this tank causing first time buyers a lot of headaches and would hate to see them turned away from a very rewarding hobby!

Cons: hard to clean, flimsy

got this tank every thing was great but the filter was a little 2 strong but just like it says on the box keeps water crystal clear if u want to start a little fish world start with this tank great tank can't beat it 4 $30.00

Don't buy this starter. It sounds like a good deal to get everything you need at once, but you're much better off buying your hood, filter, and tank separately.

The filter in this kit broke after just two days of use. I was planning to replace it with a hang on back filter anyway (Petsmart sells the Aquaclear 20 which I highly recommend) but still - two days? The filter that comes with this kit isn't customizable either, so you have to pay a premium for their special filter cartridges. No thanks! You can fill an Aquaclear filter with whatever combination of media you want.

As for the hood I will admit it looks very nice when the tank is all set up. But the feeding door is so small you have to take the hood off to do anything inside your tank (like cleaning, water changes, taking out excess food, scattering food for bottom feeders).

The lights that come with the tank sit right in the hood, over the water. Over a couple of months the evaporated water from my tank collecting by the lights corroded the light socket. I lost the use of one light due to this a few months ago, and I lost the other light last week. I've since replaced this hood with an Aqueon Versa-Top, which is all glass with a plastic piece at the back you can cut for your filter etc. I also bought an Aqueon incandescent light which sits neatly on top of the glass hood. This will protect the lights from being ruined by condensation.

With all the parts you'll end up having to replace, plus the expense of special filter cartridges (if your filter even lasts long enough to need new cartridges), this kit will end up costing you more than buying quality pieces separately.

Pros: easy to install

Cons: hard to clean, flimsy

Having lots of sizes of tanks i wanted something small and easier to keep. I now have my 7 female betas in this tank and they seem to love it. They even love the filter so much that a few of the ladies stay at the filter running through the current frequently!!

the kit its self is pretty good
the only thing that made me sad was the stream comes out from the filter was way too strong. My water plants were shaking. So i had to replace it by the sponge filter.
The User's Manual was detailed. Easy to install.

Pros: easy to install, sturdy

Bad for betta

This is a good tank for the price. It was easy to put together but the filter is way way to strong for my Betta fish. She hates it. I even baffled the filter but she still struggles to swim so I have buy a different filter for it. So good for lots of fish just not good for Betta.

this tank has everything i need, lighting, filter and a grreat price for a ten gallon tank! i put in four black mollies, 1 goldfish and three ghostshrimp. the light bulb has already made my water 80 degrees farenheight which is perfect for my tropical fish. this product is woth the money, and the trip!!

I bought this about a month ago at petsmart. I have a beautiful aquarium now with many nice fish. I love this aquarium and would recommend it to anyone wanting a ten gallon tank. I got it for $30 for sale and knew it was a great price.

Purchased this as an upgrade to my 2.5 gallon minibow. Had to return the first one as it had a crack in the glass, so check it either at the store or before adding water! Other than that, it's been a wonderful little tank. My only suggestion, if you're purchasing this, go ahead and head straight to the 20 gallon! Fishes are addicting!

This is a great starter tank or addition to any aquarium collection. Everything that this package comes with, from the glass aquarium itself to the filter, hood, and lighting ballasts.

It's noteworthy that while this set-up comes with (2) incandescent bulbs, I have replaced those two incandescent bulbs with (2) 13-watt standard household C.F.L. bulbs, giving it almost 3 watts per gallon of light coverage. The hood has a maximum output of 25 watts per socket, giving this aquarium the potential to provide coverage of 5 watts per gallon (very high light coverage)!!!!! Very important if you want to maintain a planted tank.

I put a divider, heater and 2 bettas in and it's worked perfectly. An inexpensive way to give my bettas the space they need and the included hood and filter are good too.
