This was a smaller alternative to a bunch of wires like the other digital thermometer, so I bought it. Right off the package and ad say it has a extra battery, it does not! Only one battery was in the unit and it was rusty in the package when I opened it, whether it was returned I don't know.
Then is says to make sure you tightly close it or water will get into the battery compartment, I tightened it as far as possible and still water got in!!!
It can be read easily, and has a semi accurate temp, better than reading the line thermometers but I had to make some mods to it, be sure to get one with a well rounded o-ring and possibly an extra battery.
Then get some plumbers/teflon tape and wrap it around the screw rings in the unit, to prevent more water from getting in the battery compartment. Tighten it till it won't turn anymore slowly! And then it may work like mine, and not have moisture bubbles or water damage.
Overall, it works fine but it's too expensive and not very sturdy, or water proof. If all else fails just submerge the small dip stick in water and leave the battery area above water. I would not buy another. But it would be good for a betta bowl, I have it in my tropical tank.
Pros: easy to install
Cons: price
