I started having betta's as pets about 5 years ago.
Up till now I had purchased the plastic betta tanks they featured along with the betta's and at one point had a 3 gallon plastic aquarium. My experience was that the chemicals react with the acrylic aka plastic thus within a day the water looks murky and every plastic tank developed stress cracks. Finally I purchased this glass cylinder for my betta. Blue, that's my betta's name, seems very happy in it. I included a place for him to hide, one of those stick on leaves for him to rest on near the top and a heater. So far no stress cracks and the chemical does not react with the glass as it did with the acrylic. I give this a 4 only because I don't have my betta in a full aquarium setup. For parents who purchase a betta for their child, go with a glass bowl or cylinder such as this one, which is much larger than what they usually show to keep a betta in.
Plus, this looks nice in a child's room, an end table in a living room, etc. Cleans up nicely, also and, unlike acrlic, does not turn cloudy over time.

I bought this tank for my Betta fish about a week ago and he loves it! He swims around in circles and hangs out near the bamboo that I added to it. I think this is a wonderful tank for Bettas or a small goldfish.

Pros: easy to install, easy to clean, sturdy

This is an ideal size for shrimp, snails, and plants. That's it. It isn't even a gallon! Even if it was, the cylinder shape isn't even ideal for fish. It will cause them way too much stress. Don't get it for your fish. Sorry Petsmart.
