Despite being a saucer, I use this for dry food and I'll tell you why: I have two brachycephalic cats and eating from a saucer makes grabbing the food easier and lessens the risk of food aspiration.
Due to the fact that push-faced cats, like my Persian and my Himalayan, are prone to dental infections and increased tartar build-up; all vets recommended us to feed them kibble AS LONG AS POSSIBLE. With their old bowl (an average plastic cat bowl), the cats had to dig their whole faces to try and grab a piece of food. We would mound up the food so the cats could get to it more easily, however this created a lot of waste and it wasn't really possible to monitor how much they were actually eating. Now the saucers are shallow enough to allow easy access for the cats, and amazingly have a capacity to hold at least 1/2 cup of food.
The only downside is the saucer doesn't keep the kibble from escaping (also a problem when we were using regular bowls), but this is such a minor inconvenience compared to how much easier eating is for my cats. Also, I would have liked a more mature pattern (think fine china), but this was the best one available so I'm not really disappointed.
