Our middle dog is always on alert and never truly relaxes. He barks incessantly when the doorbell rings, hates strangers coming over to the house, skitters when there is the slightest noise, always has an ear up and 1 eye open, etc... I have seen the Thunder-shirts at PetSmart and joked about how stupid they were. We decided to try one after reading reviews and hearing a testimonial. They said it worked on 80% of dogs. We decided to give it a shot since they have a money back guarantee. They are $40 and when we got it, they were on sale for $5 off. It TOTALLY works! Instantly, he calmed down. My 9 week old mi-ki puppy cried nonstop through the night because of separation anxiety. After two days without sleep, I was willing to try anything so I picked up the thunder shirt. It worked the very first night. She was so quiet in her exercise pen that I thought something was wrong with her. When I would check on her, she'd just look up at me like, "What? I'm fine, lady." I have a 3 year old adopted min poodle who is very anxious in the car. He would pant and shake to the point I was afraid he'd have a heart attack! I bought this going on everyone's suggestion over the anti-anxiety collar and spray. All I can say is "WOW". The ride home from the store was so relaxing for him I think he even fell asleep for a minute. Give it a try, if it doesn't work, you can return it.

I am the biggest skeptic on the planet when it comes to home remedies and such.. trust me I am..and we have tried them all.. My dog Holley was pooping and peeing in the house when we were gone and by our sides CONSTANTLY when were were home..we had just bought a new home also and no one was at the house during the day any longer.. so when my pet was having trouble my friend Jill (who is a vet) told me about the Thundershirt for dogs with separation anxiety and I thought oh yeah right whatever... soooo we bought it and I put it on her the first couple of days she was sooooo scared of it.. but instantly her mood changed.. she calmed down, she wans't jumping up on us and we only put it on her when we were gone from the house.. after 3 weeks of wearing there have been no messes in the house.. today we tried a little experiment and left it off of her to see if there would be a mess in the house and there wasn't!!! Worked for my DIL's dog but not for my dog

I watched my DIL's dog go from yappy, anxious and timid to completely relaxed the entire weekend I was visiting. The shirt arrived just before I did and he wore it the entire weekend. He only barked once in all that time which was miraculous. Greatly impressed,
I immediately ordered the Thunder shirt for my dog, Tasha. She's a Bichon/Poodle mix. She wore it for two days - it did nothing to calm her extreme excitement when she saw other people and/or dogs in my apartment building. She still was determined to haul me along on our walks, refusing to heel, particularly if she saw people and/or dogs. She's never been a barker but her excitement level is high and remained high during the time she wore the shirt. I plan to return it. Too much money for something that just doesn't work.

I purchased this for my 15 year old cockapoo who is scared to death of loud noises (thunderstorms, fireworks, etc.) and we live by a U. S. Army post where they are always firing munitions which are as loud as thunder. I heard about the Thundershirt so I immediately went out and purchased one, took it home, and after reading the directions, put it on her for about 15 mins for her to get used to it. Took it off until the next time loud noises began and she started shivering and shaking, and this shirt WORKED LIKE A CHARM !! She immediately quit shivering. I think she's addicted to it, though. As soon as you take it off of her, she starts shivering and shaking so I just leave it on her. She has slept better than she ever has and there is NO more shivering and shaking. THANK GOD it works for her. The THUNDERSHIRT is definitely worth the price. While it may not work for your pet, I recommend it highly. Give it a try and if it doesn't work, you have 60 days in which to return it. Needless to say, mine will NOT be returned.

Our dog has separation anxiety. He always freaks out when he sees motorcycles and big trucks while riding in our car. With the thundershirt, he quietly watches them go by. We have been on the fence about the how effective the shirt is or how he behaves in the dog crate when we leave him alone in hotels when we leave for dinner. This weekend we forgot the shirt and left him alone in his crate. This same weekend, he blasted through his soft-sided dog crate and trashed a door. We're now convinced that the Thundershirt, has been helping. I'll be sure to pack it next time.

Reading reviews all over the web of Thundershirt, it is apparent that for some dogs it does very little or nothing at all. HOWEVER, when it does work Thundershirt can be nothing short of a miracle. Plus, with the money back guarantee, why not try it? You owe it to your anxious dog to at least give this product a try.

My year old rescue pup is 100% fine now when I have to leave him home in his crate if he has his Thundershirt on. But, our most amazing instance was on New year's Eve, when my neighbors where shooting off fireworks for an hour and a half. My dog was absolutely freaking out until I put the Thundershirt on him. He became instantly drowsy, and during the worst of the racket he was sleeping soundly in his bed (see photo) It was the most amazing thing, and I was so grateful!

I am sorry for the anxious dogs out there that this does not work for - I wish that it brought relief to them all. But please don't be diswayed by the negative reviews. Another thought is to make sure that you have the right sized shirt for your dog and that it is adjusted correctly. It needs to fit quite snugly but not be constrictive in order to work - a bit of a fine line.

If you do have to return a Thundershirt, you can feel good to know that the returns are donated to dog shelters and are helping scores of homeless pets out there get through the night.

I recently got a new puppy who is about 8-9 weeks old. She is the sweetest thing but every time we leave the house she barks and howls. This is bad because we live in an apartment and we dont want any complaints. We went to petsmart and asked all the employees if this thunder jacket really did work and they all said yes! unfortunately it has had no effect what so ever in the past few days we have been trying it. I am planning on returning the item very soon.

I purchased this for my 2 yr. old Cocker Spaniel because he has separation anxiety and does not like the crate. I put the shirt on him when I was going to put him in the crate for a few hours and got back home he had behaved exactly like he does without the shirt. I am very disappointed on this product and the reviews I read prior to purchasing it. I have tried the shirt on him at other times as well and I have seen absolutely no results from wearing this thundershirt. I feel it is very overrated and am sorry that I wasted my $$: I could have purchased a nice dinner for the money I spent on basically a sweater for the dog to wear. I do not recommend this product to anyone. It is a waste of money.

Our lab mix has terrible anxiety whenever it rains and during July 4th due to the fireworks. She acts much calmer with her thundershirt on. We even let her wear it when she stays at the kennel.

She still gets scared but not nearly as bad.

I have a 4 year old Pug that no matter what I would give him; pills or treats, the anxiety never changed. I had tried every product and was about to beg a vet to prescribe him something when I decided that the only thing I hadn't tried what the Thundershirt. I didn't like the price but it's worth it. It's the only thing that worked and now he's a competely different dog!

I am so excited to report that the Thunder Shirt has saved me from being evicted from my apartment!!! It was recommended by two vets and several people who work with animals. I went to Petsmart this weekend and bought a Thundershirt XL for my 13 year old, 65#, mixed breed rescue dog. I got an XL even though he has narrow shoulders because his rib cage is large. It's a bit loose in the neck, the rest fits perfectly and doesn't impact it's effectiveness.

The two factors that pushed me towards this purchase were my dog's reluctance to chew his herbal sedatives from the vet and Petsmart's return policy.

My bf said it wouldn't work and we'd be returning it immediately. To our surprise, he let me put it on him?!?! Then, passed out within 15 minutes!!! He normally paces, pants, follows me around the house all day and every noise makes him jump awake when he is finally sleeping. He seems relieved and relaxed for the first time in a long time. I never minded him underfoot and requiring constant reassurance BUT I can immagine it was a horrible experience for him. This gives me peace that he's not as stressed out.

The shirt is nice thick stretch jersey... like a top of the line jersey sheets set. The velcro is strong and the shirt is easy to put on and my dog has long wispy fur but it didn't get caught. I can put it on him in less than 30 seconds as long as he's standing up. I get zero resistance when trying to put it on him.

The CON:
I was hoping it would help with touch sensitivity so I could clip his nails. But, he'll even fight the vet to the death over it. It didn't help at all and I kind of expected that as his issue is extreme and it doesn't seem to work (based on the hundreds of reviews I read prior to purchasing it) in areas of absolute fear.

Purchased this product for a very nervous dog when we first adopted him. It soothed him and he stopped shaking. Now every time he gets frightened from something we put it on him and he lays down and goes to sleep. Couldn't live without it!

I took my 3 year old MinPin/Chihuahua mix to the vet today to get some advice on how to fix her anxiety, they recommended several things, the thunder shirt was one of them. I was hesitant not only because of the price but I didn't understand how a tight sweater would suddenly change my dog's world. I wouldn't say that shes all of a sudden a different dog completely. She has changed though, it's almost like shes just so relaxed. I would recommend this to people with anxious dogs.

A vet tech at Banfield recommended that we try this for our 2 year old shepherd mix that has nervous aggression and also separation anxiety. Although it was very expensive, we figured we would give it a try since it had a 100% money back guarantee. When we put it on our dog, it didn't help at all. If anything, it made him even MORE excited! He was very hyper and started trying to pull it off. The way it is made, the dog is able to reach the closure area. He got his teeth onto the velcro closure on the side and was able to pull it loose very easily. We knew immediately that we would not be able to leave him alone in it since he could get it off by himself, and it wasn't helping to calm him AT ALL. It may work for some dogs, but we had no luck with it.

I have a high anxiety Vizsla who I bought this for, after seeing so many positive reviews. However, the product was a complete waste of my money. It had absolutely no effect on him, and I even had my vet help me put it on, to make sure that I was doing it right, since the instructions were a bit confusing. I was putting it on right though, that wasn't the issue.
The only good thing about this is that it did stay on my dog well, which velcro clothing usually doesn't do. However its not very warm or aesthetically pleasing, so it isn't even worth using it as a simple shirt.

I was hesitant to pay the $40 on this item. I figued with the money back guarantee I couldnt lose. We were very hopeful, unfortunately it didnt work for our Beagle/Yorkie 10lb male. We tried it for a couple weeks. He continued to whine and bark when we put him outside or left him in the house. I will be returning this item for a full refund. So disappointed.
