I've read quite a few bad things about Compact UVB bulbs, mostly when it comes to keeping Beardies. While I don't use these for my Beardie ( I use a 24'' tube), I do use these for my Green Anoles. They seem to like them and get very close when it's shed time. As soon as the shed is over, they continue to go about their business throughout their tank. They are fairly inexpensive (cheaper than the tube light) and don't completely burn out after only a month like some of the basking bulbs I use do. I have two in my tank and rotate/replace them out one at a time every 6 months ( I started with a smaller tank and one bulb). I've experienced no eye problems using these bulbs and will continue to use them. Also seem to work well with live plants--mine are all thriving under these lights and I can kill a cactus in only a few weeks :-)
I have been using this for my three turtles and I love it so far. I want to warn you though.. the bulb is pretty big, other than that I have seen this light improve my turtles health. I have only had it for 2 months but it is good.
WE HAVE HAD AN IGUANA FOR 8 YEARS NOW.WASNT EXPECTING IT TO LIVE 2 MONTH.BECAUSE I MADE MY 10 YEAR OLD AT TIME TAKE CARE OF IT.WE'LL NOW HE IS IN COLLEGE AND HIS DORM WILL NOT LET HIM BRING IT. SO HIS MOM AND I HAD TO TAKE OVER..THAT BEING SAID.WE HAVE REPLACE 1 BULB IN EIGHT YEARS.AND THE ONLY REASON FOR THAT IS BECAUSE THE PERSON AT STORE RECOMMENDED US TO..NOW THE HEAT BULB ONCE A YEAR..WE RUN LIGHT 12/12..SO TAKE IT HOW YOU WANT IT.IF YOU BUY ONE AND IT BLOWS OUT IN AN HOUR.I THINK I WOULD CHECK BEHIND MYSELF.BECAUSE SOMETHINGS WRONG..ALSO YOU CAN PUT A LIVE TROPICAL PLANT IN THE CAGE ALSO AND THE IGUANA AND THE PLANT COMPLIMENT EACH OTHER.
