I had no problem getting the piece out to fit my filter. It fits my aquarium better than the last hood I used. The water doesn't evaporate as quickly. I like it very much.

We had to replace the hood on our tank because our previous one had incandescent bulbs that got exposed to the spray off of our bubbler and corroded and no longer worked. SO, we upgraded! Let me tell you that this is the hood for you! The part where the light shines into the tank is completely sealed off from the light fixture itself. there is glass that is water tight so that no water gets through to the fixture. BRILLIANT! I love it and will NEVER go back to the hood that came with our setup!

I used to have an old desk lamp with a fluorescent yellow bulb for my 10 gallon. It lit the tank but always made things look yellow, which helped algae growth but not my plants. I also just felt that the light was incredibly uneven because some parts were so brightly lit but others were so dark. So I finally purchased the 20" hood. It fits so well with more than enough space for my filter in the back. After using tin snips to cut the sides, the cut-outs were very easy to remove. The lid works well for feeding and even water changes. My fish seem to really like the new light and I hope it'll help my plants too

I bought this hood for my standard 10 gallon tank. It works perfectly. The tab slot for the filter is more than big enough. The one for the heater is big enough that I can reach in through the tab hole to adjust the temperature.

Yes the tabs are hard to get off. They are supposed to be. You do not want them falling off when they are not supposed to. They do not have a perforated edge. Using a pair of tin snips (as the box says to use), wire cutters, or a knife, the tabs will come off relatively easy.

I purchased this light along with another model. Both of these are for 10 gallon tanks. several of my fish were unruly and needed to be separated. So I bought two different light fixtures to identify the tanks from each other.
The Auqeon Delux is still going strong a year later and all my guests love how it lights the tank.
The other one, by All-Glass barely works. I have replaced bulbs on that one 6 times already.
I plan to buy another of these and get rid of the other model hood and light.

The hood has to be a little bit smaller in order to fit on the lip of a 24" tank. It is designed to be a little bit smaller in order to fit on the lip that are on most glass tanks. If the hood was 24", then the hood would not fit on a tank that is also 24" long. Therefore, the hood would be 23" in order to fit on a 24" tank. Measure your tank, make sure you have a lip on your tank, and order the hood that matches the length of your tank. This is a great product that works on almost every tank.

I bought the 24 inch hood for my 23 and a half inch tank.

I had to go to 3 different Petsmarts to find it, after unpacking and making sure the tank was ready I went to put it on and IT'S ONLY 23 INCHES WIDE! A fundamental flaw in the product which is SOLD AS A 24 INCH HOOD!

I think the quality looks good and I imagine if you have a 23 inch tank it is a lovely hood.

I bought the Aqueon 29gal kit. Over all it was a very good deal. However, I have had minor problems with it. When I got the product home, the directions to put the filter together were sparse, there were no product lists, so I didn't know a piece was missing. I called Aqueon, they were helpful and sent me a new filter siphon piece free of charge, and answered my questions about the product. I changed the filter and found that the filter's batting deteriorates quickly, I had bought more anyway, but a bit surprised at the short longevity. I have had the product for three months, and the lamp went, I bought a new bulb, but it is the ballast that went, not the bulb; the ballast is sealed so you can't replace it easily. To buy a new lamp fixture, the cost is over 50% of the entire purchase price of the kit. I am looking for a more reasonably priced replacement, or may hack it apart and replace the ballast anyway and reseal it. As I said, I like it, looks great, and when everything is working its a wonderful tank, I am just disappointed that the parts are so short lived and the replacements are expensive.

Its a piece of plastic with a light! not a Porsche. I was shopping around for hoods and passed on this one... until I saw one in a pet store for $169 for pretty much the same thing. I have a 55gal, so my hood was $89.... not bad at all. Everyone seems to complain about the knock outs for the filter. The knock outs are supposed to be hard to get out... you dont want them falling apart when you dont want them out. Use a blade and score the plastic around the one you want out and it comes out easier(disclaimer: knives are usually sharp... dont cut yourself) Overall.... the light turns on when the timer tells it to, and the lids open and close when I tell them to. It fit the tank perfectly.

I have a 10 Gallon community tank and this is perfect. It fits well and looks great. There's only 2 things I dislike, the feeding door and punch outs. The punch outs are good, it's just how hard it is to get them out. The feeding door I need to pull hard on to get it open, but overall that can be counted as a good thing considering there's a cat in the house. I do highly recommend this hood.

It may not fit certain 10 gallon tank. Mine was the standart 24 1/4 length. Like the previous reviewer said, it didn't fit. It was a pain trying to break off the plastic tab at the back for filters and air hose. Poor design.

Okay so I have seen some negative reviews on this product and i dont see why. I bought one of these hoods for one of my 10 gallons (in which i have several tetras, danios and a pleco) and it works great and fits great with no problems. The lighting brings out the colors in my fish well and I'm pleased with it overall.
I ordered another size that is not carried in stores for my 55 gallon south American cichlid tank and can't wait to get it so I can get it installed!

I bought a 24 inch hood for my daughter's tank (which is 24 inches long). The product was actually LESS THAN 23 INCHES (like to save on plastic). The packaging is misleading -- the product is much smaller than what is labelled on the box and on the Petsmart advertisement. This product will fall into your aquarium. My daughter almost got the shock of her life. DO NOT BUY THIS.
