A few weeks ago I went to Petsmart to get another betta. I had already looked online and knew what type of tank I was going to get. Because the bettas at PetSmart are small (when you buy them), I planned on getting a 1 gallon tetra aquarium (I already have a 2.5 gallon aquarium with a betta that's getting very old) and when then I would move the new fish to the bigger tank after my older one died.

Anyway, when I went to the store, I was disappointed that I didn't see the Tetra 1 gallon because that would set off my shopping list (the Tetra was a tank with LED base lighting and for it I was going to buy glass pebbles). When I saw the Marina Cubus, I was weary to buy it at first, but then I realised the dimensions would give the betta enough room to swim around, despite the aquarium being only 1 gallon. Since the aquarium is a cube, it gives enough space for a betta to swim forward and backwards, up and down.

Originally I had a 1 gallon Marina betta starter kit (which Petsmart now only carries in a 1/2 gallon size), and it was okay until my older fish started to grow and could only swim back and forth. You see, the dimensions were such that once the fish grew to a certain length, the only directions that it could swim is up and down, left to right.

I bought the Marina Cubus because it was made out of glass and the light included would be far enough away from the tank that it would not overheat. When I brought it home, and filled it up, it looked great with the décor and my fish, although I couldn't see him because half the time he was too scared :)

The next week when I did a water change and cleaned the tank, I did not see any algae growing around where the glass panels are connected with glue. It is true that the tank is not made out of a single piece of glass, but it is actually five pieces of glass stuck together with glue. I've only had the aquarium for a few (3) weeks, but I have not noticed any algae growth there, despite what another review said. The tank also does have a reflective quality so I would suggest only turning on the light during the day and not when the room is dark, as this is when the fish will see its reflection.

Overall, I would say that this is a great tank for anyone buying a betta, but eventually it WILL need to get a bigger tank so the fish has more space to swim around.

I love the way this tank looks and thought that it would be perfect for my betta. But after I put one plant in, it was far too tiny. After 24 hours, the tank begain to leak and now it is on the way back to Petsmart.

Easy to clean, easy to use, perfect size for a betta. My daughter has this tank and loves her betta. We have had it set up now for about 6 months. Long as we dont over feed she only has to do about a half cup water change a day... Would recommend this tank to anyone getting a betta. Its ten times better than any plastic tank out there.

I used this tank for my first betta fish and had a terrible experience with it. First, though, I'll say that I did like the light, which doesn't heat up the water when it is turned on. However, I had several problems with this kit...
First of all, it is way too small for betta fish. In the tank, there isn't much room for ornaments or plants, either. Second, there isn't any filtration. The water quickly became murky. Third, the walls aren't molded together. The tank is made of individual pieces of material glued together, and the cracks between the glue molded and grew algae.
This tank might be great if you change your water every couple days and meticulously measure the water chemistry, but overall I didn't like it and wouldn't recommend it to any fish owner.

Pros: easy to install

Cons: hard to clean

I recently purchased my first Betta fish and this tank. It has plenty of space for him to swim and is easy to clean and maintain. It looks great on my desk and doesn't take up much space. The light is nice and bright and really brings out the colors in my fish.

I read several reviews on this tank that said it was wonderful, and I thought it was so cute. So we went to Petsmart and bought it..
At first it was great, we could see our fish much better, it seemed like there was a lot more open space for the fish and the light was nice. but then we realized that some how the tank was reflective. Our fish could see itself every time it was near the corners of the tank. And at first we thought it wouldn't be that bad... No, our fish was angry. He would puff up his face all the time and usually when we walked in the room he got all excited and swam around like crazy. well after a day of being in the tank our fish hid under it's leaf hammock (http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4055997) and it wouldn't eat. I would nottt recommend this tank at all.

Its an excellent betta tank. Its glass structure and square design gives it an elegant look. The LED lighting brings out the colors of everything in the tank. True, a switch for the light would be nice, but mine is hooked to a surge protector that has a switch I can flip there so no big issue there. For the price, its unbeatable. Ive had the acrylic tanks and they seem more of a hassle, more cleaning and they stain if not washed very regularly. I have two bettas, one in the new tank and one in an acrylic tank and the one in the new tank seems alot happier. Im going to buy another for my other one soon! The tank is a nice piece for an end table, bar, computer desk, etc. I recommend this tank. Mine has red gravel and bamboo with branches in the center.

Bought this today along with a small light purple male betta. Light and portable, and easy to set up. I love the light as it brings out the fish's colors. My 2.5 gallon tank which houses a second betta doesn't have a light and I can see the difference with having one. I added an external nano filter so I don't have to do water changes too frequently. I still put the lid on so the fish won't jump out, although it now protrudes about half an inch on the front of the tank - but no big deal. You can also use an internal nano filter too.

I don't think i can say enough good, no make that Great things about this fish tank. Its sleek, stylish, easy-to-do, fun, and amazing! If you want to get a betta fish tank that is cool and easy-to-do then i would recommend this product to you. I just bought this a few days ago and WOW! I love it! There are so many good things to say about this fish tank! Its not that big so it can fit nicely on a desk, counter top, or night stand but its not really that small either. There is enough room for some accessories like plants and other relatively small things. I put an about 3'' plant (fake) and a figure of the remains of an old Roman building (also about 3''-4''). I also like the light, it works nicely and makes it easier to really look at your fish. The ONLY thing I don't like about this has to do with the cord to the light. On the cord to the light there is no on or off switch. You have to manually turn it on and off. I don't mind that its just hard because I have it on the corner of my desk and the outlet is on the side of the desk so it makes it challenging to turn on and off. That is the only concern I have with this so if you do get one, make sure the place your plan to put your fish tank has easy access to a outlet (if you plan to use the light which I would recommend). Over all this fish tank works very well and looks very nice anywhere.

This tank looks very nice, clean, compact, etc. I like that it is made of glass too. However, the light does not have an on/off switch so you need to unplug it every night. And my Betta seems really bothered by it. He hangs out at the bottom until I turn it off and then swims around! It seems way too small for him, so I am taking it back and getting him something bigger (2 gal), even if that means an acrylic tank. He just doesn't seem very happy...

I bought this tank when I bought my beta fish - I didn't have a tank waiting at home, plus this was on sale at the time, so I picked it up along with all the other accessories. It is stylish, and fits nicely anywhere - it's small and compact which makes it great when you don't have much room. The LED light I really like, and it brings out the bright, vibrant colors of my beta. With this tank you HAVE to do a full water change every week. I also recommend not using tap water, but buying spring water from the store. If you don't, the water quality will drop and your beta will be at risk. If you don't have the time to do a tank change, then this tank is not for you.

I have since upgraded to a larger tank - a 5 gallon standard aquarium. I admit this tank is much too small for a beta and I feel bad keeping him in it for such a long time - there's not much room to swim around. I now use this particular tank as a holding tank for when I'm working on the larger aquarium. If you truly want the best for your beta, upgrade to (or better yet just buy right off the bat) a bigger tank, 2 gallons being the minimum. They will be much happier with the extra room!

I have a couple of these tanks and really enjoy them. Even though they are small, the cube space allows for more swimming space and isn't too tall. It's super easy to clean and looks really sleek. Just make sure you stay on top of your water changes (about a 50% & 100% per week water changes), check the amonia levels and get a heater. Over all, I'm very satisfied with this tank.

Am I the only ones who actually knows & cares about fish that submits review on these sub-par death traps that are sold as tanks?! People, get at least a 2 gallon tank, smaller is just lazy, your fish will die as they're not proper homes. If you're cool with that, great, if not, please by an actual proper tank as PetSmart sells those, too.

I purchased this tank at my local Petsmart along with a small male crowntail betta. He is very active and seems happy with it.

The light attachment really shows off his colors nicely. Only minor complaint is that the opening on top is rather wide so it is possible for him to jump out, but no problems so far. It holds maybe 3/4 gallon of water max. and fits on well on a small table top. Recommended.

This aquarium is perfect for my Betta fish! The LED light really makes my Betta's colors stand out. The tank is really easy to clean. You can take the light off while you clean which makes it easy instead of having to worry about bumping into it. The tank is made of glass. But the lid is made of sturdy plastic. My betta loves this tank. I'm sure your betta would too.
