In researching cat food for my little Dude, everything pointed to MEAT as the #1 ingredient. I checked the "natural" or "holistic" brands - most of which listed meat as the 2nd, 3rd or even 4th ingredient! Of the "off the shelf" or grocery store brands, only Iams listed meat as the #1 ingredient. I chose Eukanuba kitten formula because it listed meat first, it wasnt available at your local convenience or grocery store, and the price while a little more than Iams wasnt going to break the bank.
I think I made the right choice... the Dude has a shiny coat, his litter box is super easy to clean and barely smells at all. He has never had a hairball nor has he ever vomited in his 6 months (knock on wood). He only eats until he's full - the high protein content means he doesnt go through as much food.
His vet recommends Hills Science Diet or Iams - they even give you an Iams sponsored "new kitten package." When I told my vet the Dude eats Eukanuba, Vet said - "that brand is great - keep doing what you're doing."
I think I will.
