With 6 cats in the house, we have used this litter for years. We have mostly been happy with it. Unfortunately, In the last year we have noticed some bags are so dusty, there are clouds of dust everytime you change the litter or scoop it! The next bag might be fine. I have also noticed that my cat's fur smells like this litter. It seems to be leaving a thin layer of "silt" everywhere! I am worried about my cats licking and breathing it in. We are looking for an alternative.

Best I've ever had!

The litter is far superior to all others I have ever used. Dust is very low. Only reason I know there is any dust at all is that my contact lenses get "stuck" with the residue, I wear safety glasses now when playing in the sand. The clumping is excellent. The litter is far superior at drawing the moisture from the feces. Not wasting litter on dry feces. The urine clumps are very hard. I am disabled and have a housekeeper that comes twice a week to help with recycling, carrying out trash and collecting mail, as well as light housekeeping. We have come to call the litter as bricks because they are so dense.
The only complaint I have, and its not a complaint about the product, but about my cats. They insist on using the back corner of my LitterMaid box, and the hard clumps will stick to the plastic and then I have to clear the brick jam.
Training cats, right.

Much less dust!

I tried this litter on the recommendation of a PetSmart salesperson. I told her I had been using Fresh Step Unscented but it was extremely dusty and left a layer of gray dust on every surface in the kitties' bathroom. And I had to cover my nose with something every time I scooped, to avoid the dust. I didn't like knowing that my kitties were breathing all that dust every time they used the box. I also told her that I use only unscented because I do not like the smell of perfume in scented litter. You keep the smell away by keeping the box clean, not by covering the smell with perfume. I was skeptical that Precious Cat really would be 99.9% dust free but I gave it a try. I am happy to report that although there is a little bit of dust, the difference is like night and day. And the tiny bit of dust that does get on the bathroom counter is so fine it is almost invisible--no more of that yucky gray dust that so thickly covered everything. So I am a believer. The price is great too. About $16 for a 40 lb. bag. Try it...you'll like it. My kitties and I sure do.

I love this product I started my kitten on "kitten attract" from the same brand. When I switched to a popular boxed brand I was put off by the odor coming from the litter box, my cat smelled like the scent of the litter and I couldnt stand it. Also since that brand of litter had bigger pieces of little I found myself needing to change it more often and it tracked outside the box alot. This hardly tracks outside the box at all. it comes in a 40 lb bag and is very affordable. The urine clumps in perfect balls. And it isnt scented so my cat doesnt smell like the litter box, yet no one in our family has ever smelled any foul odors coming from her box. I scoop it out once every day or 2 and it works out perfectly.

I love this litter. We have 15 cats . We rescue as many as we can. This litter is dust free and seems to be less messy to me. I would love to see it come in buckets instead of a bag but I can live with that.

Horrible for automatic litter boxes

This does not clump hard enough in the 15 minutes between when my cat goes potty to when the rake engages-so the rake will scrape the top of the clump into pieces, and the bottom eventually solidifies to the box so I have to clean the box every day manually. Otherwise my cat gets the pieces of litter in her paws and fur and drags it all over the house.
It's not dusty or smelly though.

Excellent litter! While I recently reviewed another litter as excellent with 5 stars, after the first several batches, the quality of that litter went downhill.
Initially that litter was dust free and clumped well, however and again, subsequent batches suffered from increased dust and very poor clumping. I found myself experiencing the same clumping issues that another reviewer (in a neighboring community north of us - L.A.) suffered. That is the clumps very easily breaking into minute clumps (very tiny) when trying to scoop.
Resorting again to research, one feline web site strongly recommended Dr. Elsey's "Precious Cat" and even went so far as providing a video of how to clean a litter box - WITH Precious Cat. I decided to give it a try. This time, I waited to write this review until using several MORE batches than I did with the "other" litter.
Amazing litter! It clumps like concrete (figuratively speaking! but it does clump very well), there is NO visible dust and no added deodorizers or scents (bad).
Although Precious Cat does track, I would estimate that it tracks no more than 1/2 again as much as the previous litter I reviewed (IF that much!). But, what would you prefer, 2-3 minutes more for vacuuming or 2-3 days dusting every week? The choice has been obvious for us.
I strongly recommend this litter for hassle free, VERY easy to work with litter (that stays amazingly clean for a long time). Again, because the granules are larger with this litter, it may SEEM as though it tracks more but it really is not that much worse than other litters that "claim" to be non-tracking -- a small price to pay for such superb, high quality litter.
Oh, clean your litter at least twice a day, or more, depending on how many cats you have.

Amazing litter!

I had read so many positive things about this litter through customer reviews and the Precious Cat website that I felt it was time to give it try. Boy, am I glad we did!
The cat had no problem transitioning to this brand from the old brand, which was our main worry (and she is one fussy cat!). It clumps hard and quickly. It's unscented, yet it eliminates any odors that may be lurking in the litter box. It works wonderfully with the automatic litter box. Definitely LESS dusty than the old litter. It does track a little, but we keep a mat underneath the litter box, and a quick pass with the nearby hand vac picks up any stray pieces.
The only drawback is the bag that it comes in. It appears to puncture easily. We inspect the bag at the time that we're purchasing it, to make sure there aren't any pre existing holes.
Overall, we're EXTREMELY pleased with it, this is our new litter of choice. Thanks Dr. Elsey!
