its nice because it has a filter. you don't have to fill it up everyday. You don't have to worry about it tipping over and my pet enjoys watching the water fill up the bowl when you first put the water in it. lol!
Pros: durable, easy to clean, Spillproof

Replendish Feeder: Starving Pets Everywhere

I bought the 2lb and 5lb feeder. Unlike previous feeders I have used both the water and food versions have a lid which makes it much easier to clean the clear plastic storage bottle. The plastic base has tiny cracks where food bits fall into and is next to impossible to clean. Unfortunately, the Petmate Replendish feeder does not work. It fails to let the food come down from the bottle into the bowl. I bought this feeder so my pets would have food while I went away for a few days. Instead my pets are left hungry while the food is stuck inside the clear bottle of the feeder. I have to wonder how this product made it to consumers. The manufacturer should be giving everyone who purchased this poorly designed feeder a full refund.

I had been using the PetMate automatic waterer for over a month and was pleased with its performance, so I figured that the PetMate automatic feeder would be of the same quality. I guess not! You have to shake it or tip it forward for the gravity-feed function to work, which totally defeats the purpose of the product. I'm thinking of returning it, as I've only been using it for two days, but I don't know if used merchandise can be returned... However, it's still easier to tip it forward or shake it than to have to take a food bowl out of the cage or pen, get the bag of food & open it, scoop food into the bowl, and put it back.
There's a little, black, plastic thingamabob on the inside of the bottle's rim that could be causing the obstruction. (It's a hard plastic ring with a line going through the middle... Kind of like the red symbol on 'no-smoking' signs.) I'm really not sure why it's there, but it wouldn't come out when I tried to remove it. I think I might break off the line going down the center the next time I have to refill the bottle to see if that helps.
I also agree with the other reviewers that the design is kind of awkward with many nooks & crannies. The lip on top of the bowl does come off to make it easier to clean in all the holes, though I'm sure the design could be improved upon. I'm using it for rabbits, so I don't have to deal with soggy food or anything like that, but I can see how that could be an issue.

If I have to shake it, what's the point?

One of the worst, if not THE worst, products I have ever purchased for my cat. Product design FAIL.
When the bowl is empty, the food does NOT drop down unless the canister gets a good solid jiggle by a human. Um, I bought an automatic feeder because a human is NOT going to be in my house for a couple of days and I would like for my cat to be fed while I'm not there. Totally defeats the purpose.
And I like to wash my feeder between uses ... this feeder has nooks and crannies where dry food gets caught (had to scrub it with a toothbrush, then blast it with canned air ... way too much trouble!). Plus, when you wash it, the water gets trapped in the hollow compartment around the dish. I turned it upside down and let it drain, then still had to manually shake water and nasty soggy bits of dry food out of that compartment for several days. Disgusting.

2lb version: Bad bottleneck design - doesn't work!

It's difficult to see how anyone could screw up designing something as simple as this, but no matter what size cat biscuits I've tried putting in the 2lb feeder (I usually use Whiskas), they get stuck in the mouth of the reservoir and the dish stays empty. I sawed as much as I could off the neck of the reservoir to open it up, but it only helped a little. Every day I've had to pick it up and shake it so the movement dislodges some food, which totally defeats the object of having it. The last few times I've been away for more than a day, I've had to put a large bowl of food out so the cat doesn't starve - incredible that a simple bowl is still better than this waste of money which the manufacturer must have tested with sand or water instead of cat food!
It's also a nightmare to clean - there is no way to clean the bowl properly because crumbs get stuck in the inner lips & ridges no matter how hard you shake it.
I also have the water version of this feeder. That works OK, although it's still difficult to clean and has too many hidden breeding sites for mould & bacteria.
I've just bought the PetSafe 2lb feeder today from another store, and although it was almost twice the price, the food flows perfectly because the reservoir is cone-shaped and has a wide opening at the bottom. It's also much easier to clean. I don't normally write reviews, but I wanted to warn anyone thinking of buying it not to waste their money.
I don't know whether the barrel design with a small bottleneck works on the larger versions, but the 2lb one is pathetic and should be withdrawn from sale.
Cons: doesn't work
