Just set it up, no fish yet. Couldn't get a crisp image, sorry!
I had been looking at a different starter kit, but a salesperson pointed out that this one came with a heater and net. I found that nicer than having to shop around and figure out what kind of heater to get. The filter is virtually silent and I love the glow that the LED lighting gives. The only reason I didn't give this kit 5 stars is that I found the instructions to be difficult to follow at times. I think they're a generic set for all the different sized starter kits-- talked about items that weren't included and weren't always clear about placement, etc. In the end I figured it out, but for someone that really knows nothing about starting an aquarium, I would have appreciated a little more guidance.

Never had a fish tank in my life, after seeing my little guy love Finding Nemo and always stares at the fish when we go to pet shops, I figured it was time to get one. After spending almost an hour in Petsmart and talking to 2 different people, I brought this one home. At first it was confusing to put together but it's really simple. It doesn't come with the bacteria or other chemical it says. Filter was super quite for me, can barely hear it when I'm close to it and its quiet in the house.
I would recommend do not get a Pleco(sucker fish) get a snail instead. It created too much waste and the nitrates and other levels will be skewed and mess with the water. If you want a cool tank and not too much maintenance with 3-4 fish, this would be perfect!!!

This kit is an awesome one, even though the glue work is really, really, REALLY sucky. BTW, the kit doesn't contain the water clarification or bacteria samples.

This is the first tank that I ever own and I gotta say I'm loving it so far. The tank come with everything you need to start an aquarium. Although it is a little pricey compare to the other starter kit that are similar in what they includes. I like the fact that the door on the hood is wider than most if the other hoods that came with the other starter kits. I really didn't care for the filter that much because it really did not do it job well and it also produce a really sting current for my betta. The only down side that the heater that came with has is that I don't think it's fully submersible, because there's a mark on the heater for the water level, which can be inconvenience at times.

The cat loves it, too!
Bought this tank for my daughter for Christmas and she LOVES it! The one I bought actually has an LED light rather than incandescent one described, which is fine with me. I haven't owned a fish tank in years so the kit made it easier for me to get everything set up without too much thought. Although my daughter is not old enough to help with water changes and other tank maintenance (she's only 3 1/2), she loves her new responsibility of feeding the fish and turning the lights on and off everyday. P.S. The cat loves it, too!

Beautiful, but different hood than in product photo
First thing, after you purchase, open the box to ensure that your tank is not cracked. I did this because I read someone else's review and I was glad because it had a huge crack. i went right back in the store and they gladly swapped out a new tank.
Now, the hood that is pictured here is not what they had in store, which I was glad about. The one in store has a much lower profile and LED LIGHT!!! Unfortunately, the LED only has one setting unlike another tank I had that had a night/moon setting which I loved but oh well.
Very easy to set up, and the filter runs very quite. Comes with a heater that is adjustable and works very well. I had a problem with my last tank, where the pump was way to strong and created a strong current that my fish couldn't escape. The "waterfall" on this filter disrupts the water enough to get airflow but is not too strong for my fish.
Overall, this is a simple and attractive tank. Comes with everything you need to start except food and water conditioner. Very affordable. We've only had it a few weeks so I can't say anything about the durability but we are pleased so far.

I purchased two of these, one for my betta breeding, and one for my community fish. I highly recommend this product, especially because it already supplies you with everything you need! It's easy to clean and setting up is easy. Just sit back and enjoy your fish!

LED at night
I seen this online so I went to the store to buy it. When I showed up they didn't actually have this exact product. It was the same kit but a holiday kit with bonus coupons. Plus the lid was LED. I don't know if the LED lid is taking over the incandescent or not. I ask someone who worked at the store and they weren't exactly sure. I bought it anyway.
Okay so let's start with my opinion. The filter is nice, mine is VERY quite. (You can't adjust the flow of the water so it might be tough for a male betta) The hood could of been a little better. It seems kind of cheap to me. It serves its purpose though. It does have a little feeding hole that is open all the time. The LEDs are bright but, they come in two strips that connect together. You have to install them in the hood by sliding them in the grooves. Also, if the LEDs go out there is a 1year warranty. If they go out after that I don't know where you can get new ones. That can be a downside. Finally the heater is nice it is a 50watt and you can adjust the heat. All in all, it is a good product for the money.

The aquarium is great, comes with a bunch of instructions and is a great deal for the price. The filter is quiet, and the heater is great. The thermometer is not great and i would recommend buying a different one.

This was my first aquarium, and I am happy with it. A great price for everything included. I have 9 fish in it and they all seem very happy with enough room to swim around. There is a good amount of space for lots of decor. Great addition to any room. The filter is quiet, light is great, no problems with the heater. I have had the tank for about 6 months now.

I bought this aquarium for my male Betta about three months ago. It was on sale for $49.99 and I thought that was a great price. When I got home, I immediately began to carefully un-box it. It was packed nicely. When I had everything laid out neatly on the floor, I began to inspect the goodies. Everything appeard to be okay. I then came to the tank itself.... No crack... But silicone was EVERYWHERE. It was a MESS. I was very disappointed because my nearest Petsmart was 15 miles away, and with gas prices so high, it would be a pain to return it. I called Petsmart that night, and talked to a very friendly, and patient gentleman. He apologized, and told me that I could bring the just the tank back into the store and they could open another box open to get a new tank out for me. I thanked him and told him I would be in the next day. The next day I went, and they looked at my receipt and the tank, and then just gave me a COMPLETELY new kit! I thanked them for it, and returned home. I unpacked that kit, and noticed that there was a CRACK at the bottom, going all the way across the tank. I was about to just scream when I noticed it was silicon (haha, I know). There was a smudge at the top side of the tank, like a finger print, but it was some chemical that wouldn't come off. I eventually got it off by using a steel wool sponge.
Other than those minor niggles, I love the tank. The lights that came with it aren't that great, so I bought new ones. The filter doesn't really keep the tank super clean in my opinion, so I bought another, more powerful one. The heater is currently in a 5 gallon I have set up and works fine.
To the lady who said the instructions were HARD/OVERWHELMING, that's your opinion. I have had so many tanks in my life, and didn't even need them. For the beginners planning on buying this tank, the instructions are fine and clear.
Would I reccomended this tank to a friend? Yes. My Betta loves it.

Somewhere between Liked and Loved it

I just bought my first 10 gal tank (which was as big as would fit but after reading around a bit, not a good sized tank). It was so helpful that all the parts where there (for the most part) and although there were some confusing directions, common sense usually won out-and when it didn't, the internet did. My biggest complaint is that it gets you all set up and then gives you just a test kit entry sheet. For a beginner who didn't know about nitrates or pH or any of that stuff, I didn't understand where this sheet was coming from until I did research. It would be better if the kit at least told you that you have to buy a separate test kit for the aquarium. I had the entire thing up and running and then because I didn't have a test kit, couldn't do an initial test reading. Another problem I had was that it sent AquaSafe as well as two packets of water conditioner and bacteria starter. Nowhere did it tell me if I was supposed to add all three or the little packets only and leave the AquaSafe. The heater was also a problem...it is so inacurate and only has a plastic knob to adjust temp. The resistance of the knob makes it impossible to make small adjustments. In the same vein, I would recommend getting a third party thermometer (Not from the kit) and see if the strip is off or the heater is to high. I did run into the problem of filter noise, but that was easily solved by wedging the plastic sleeve (that the net head came in) into one side of the filter at the top of the part that goes into the water. This may seem insubstantial, but it would have been nice to know if gravel or sand was better, what would harm the filter, and which type of fish go with which (since they seem to have every other pamphlet under the sun in it). If nothing else, put some how-to videos online. It may seem like I'm complaining, but overall, it was a great starter kit which had a lot of basic stuff that I wouldn't have known to get.

Sorry it's just the inside but this works too[:
This aquarium doesn't cost a ton of money and there are lots of different pros and cons... This is a great tank for a betta and other fish too. The filter has lasted me for almost three years but a bad thing is that you have to change the filter cartridges and that takes away biological bacteria that a fish tank needs but that's just me and the cartridges aren't expensive. And this tank does have large algae growth but that's because it's so small... but i think that there could be at least some markings indicating what temperature that you are setting the aquarium to, that would really help out a bit. Other than that i think that everything works the way it's supposed to, and is a great starter kit!!! My betta and is little friends love it!!!(:

I've had this aquarium for a little over 6 months and it have been doing great so far!! It came with nearly everything needed to set it up except for gravel and decorations. Setup was easy, but I realized that the heater had a plus and minus dial, so it was hard to keep the temperature of the water steady. It was at 90 degrees at one point. The filter was mediocre and I always found myself replacing the inserts because they would get too dirty and the filter would backup. I had to go buy a heater with a temperature control dial for precise temperature and an aquaclear 30 filter in order to keep the tank from getting terribly dirty. I have goldfish mixed with tropical fish, so a filter that is reliable is essential. The hood and lights are basic, but they are good for a beginner. I'm planning to buy fluorescent lights in the future for this tank. Overall, this kit is good for a beginner and saves you money as opposed to buying everything separately.

Amazing Kit!

This starter kit is great for all begginers! I immediately set it up when I got home and it looks great! The tank was in great condition, and all were high quality products. The price was fantastic! At first I was kinda debating on it, but, when I got started, I really realized how many things were included. The only thing I would say was disapointing, is the top cover. I was thinking the top would fit, even with my heater, and filter, but then realized I needed a saw to cut the sides. It all worked out though ;) I replaced the bulbs in my two bendable lamps, with the ones included, and they work perfect! I really love this kit!
